Permalink I Got the Boss Space Echo Pedal

New Topic

Thanks for the update- I started putting feelers out on ebay, but will probably just concentrate on trying to find either an AD999 or a Carbon Copy for a good price.

Roland has had a bad habit for many years of providing too many options. Lets face it, most pedals are good for one sound only. Not all but most, so simple straight ahead would be better. Cool

The Boss DM-2 is my favorite. This one is just missing a power adapter, they normally go for much more.

Thanks Jake, added to my searches. They certainly look collectible, though given the same cost it might be worth opting for a used DM-2 over a new CC or BBE.

If you like the DM-2 sound, check out the BBE Two Timer too.

I have a DM-2 and I've also always thought it was a little too muddy. I'm really liking the 2-Timer so far, not as muddy, plus it has two channels so you can switch delay times with the push of a button.

Yeah, the BBE has been on my radar too, same exact price as the MXR, though I read about some potential regen issues on the CC that might make a BBE a little more appealing in the used market. That Ibanez looks interesting too, but looks like it falls in the collectible category too. Thanks again for the advice, I'll definitely add it to the watch list, you never know.

Which main different between DD-3?...on the other hand, this Boss Space Echo is the best digital 'emuling analog' pedal i've never check!...I love it!...is it very different the reverb from the original Roland Space Echo?

I used to own a DD-3 - it is a standard digital delay. Digital sterility compared to analog warmth all for the cost of more delay time.

Yes its really bullshit, the original has a Reverb Pan and this one is just digital crap. Not usefull in any way.

I´ve been using the RE-20 for while now...I must say it´s quite ok.
I´m fed up with Electro Harmonix and their hardware problems, owned two Deluxe Memory Man, and my last one just died away, no way I can bring it back to life...

The Reverb on it doesn´t apply at all...at least not for the effect we all love to achieve...might be of use for some other stuff, but for me it´s too muddy...

The RE-20 is all in all a reliable unit, will work fine at every stage condition, and it somehow resembles a tiny bit the work of a tape unit. For my taste it could have a bit more of warble, or tape flutter imitation, but it´s ok.

Compared to the real stuff it lacks a big portion balls.
I also own a Fulltone TTE, wich is great, though it just has one recording head, so no mutliple tap delays on it...still like it a lot, but never take it live...it´s way too delicate, and let´s face it: very few audience members will notice the difference...

Someone on here ( I think it was Ivan) suggested the Yamaha Magicstomp (a mult-effects pedal)) for its delays and reverb (digital). I did and have been VERY pleased with it, especially the "Shadow" delay and the "Multihead" delay settings. It also has a couple of nice reverb effects - one is very close to the onboard reverb of my Super Reverb. And some very usable overdriven/fuzz effects. This pedal gives you access to several of the parameters on each effect and you do have to spend some time to make them sound good, but its usually the only thing I use when I play out. Very convenient. I did recently pick up a vintage Boss DM-2. The signal deterioration of this analog unit is part of its character (as opposed to the perfectly clean repeats of a digital delay) and I like it a lot.

really?..In fact, you know...no real good reverb pedals i', afraid.....but delay/echo it's amazing!!!....i should to get a Roland Space Echo some day....anybody checked any other model from Roland?...301, 501(? not sure)...i know there are someones with chorus...

My old roommate had one of these, and while it was fun to mess around with and create noise, the reverb was beyond useless and most settings had a real digital sound to them. Let's put it this way - I stopped using it altogether when I bought Ivan's old Zoom pedal with the Shadows patches.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I've heardt it during a live performance of my friends Wet-Tones. It's a beautiful effect, echo and reverb at the same time, really beautiful.

But if you compare a new unit with an old one... uhm... I'm totally agreed with Zac.

I've a Binson echorec and a Dynacord echocord S-65 both all tubes. They have a truly vintage tone even if you use them without echo settings, but only like a pre-amp!!! Vintage killer tone!!! I'm sure of this!!! Fantastic!!!

I actually had the chance to compare one to my RE-201 and I don't really think it sounds like a real tape echo. It's a much better than average sounding delay pedal, but it still sounds like a delay pedal. The Space Echo's sound isn't just about the echo, it has a lot to do with how the internal preamp interacts with the input of your amp. The Boss pedal doesn't reproduce the in-your-face wallop of a lightly overdriven Space Echo preamp and slightly saturated tape pummeling the input of your amp with hot signal in its "high" output setting. This becomes immediately apparent in a band context, though I concede that the Boss can be a useful recording tool in the right context - it's less noisy.

I'm amazed that with the Space Echo, I can make a PRS sound like Brian Setzer's Gretsch. I use a DD-7 and mix it with the Space Echo and I'm in sonic heaven!

The MagicStomp (to my ears) has some good delays...I loaded the Charlie Hall Echos From The Past Hank Marvin patches on mine and like them a lot..it has a usable fuzz and some decent if not steller od's...

A lot of time has passed and new gear introduced since the last post in this thread about the BOSS RE-20 Space Echo. Too many random comments scattered over too many topics (including mine).

Before I buy one, I have a question. The video demo by Gary Lenaire here http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=896&ParentId=260 sounds nice and makes it seem to do what I want from an echo.

The question I have is, is this pedal more like a fun gadget to play around with, or is it really only useful in a recording setting where there is time to interactively play with it as the video shows, or is it actually useful to perform instrumental/surf music with? I'm assuming it's necessary to keep a cheat-sheet of different settings for different tunes).

Has anyone here recorded something with it I can hear? Thanks.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Heres a video of the Los Coronas and The Space echo on stage
You can see it at the beginning of the video.

I have the Space Echo pedal and its totally a better pedal that the
Dano Reel Echo which ive destroyed 2 already. I have a few others
like the Aqua Puss and the Rocktron short timer but the RE-20
is very dependable and is great on stage too.

Hope this helps in your purchase
