Permalink Does excessive heat affect Amps??

New Topic

Hey guys, as you know I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and in the summer it can get as hot as 115 degrees or more around here. For the most part the air is very dry too. I know heat is terrible for most guitars, but what about guitar amps?

I was thinking of storing a Fender amp in the garage, but I don't want to do that if the heat is going to damage it. I googled this topic, but did not really find much on amps.

Any enlightening info on this topic is appreciated!

I would not do this unless necessary. The cabinet will suffer at the glue joints. The electronics, not so much.

I wouldn't reccommend that either. The Heat and cooling over and over at such extremes will not be good.

Jagshark,
I live in San Diego....Fender amps love it here.
I would be happy to store for you Wink
ps...I will be visiting the in-laws in Tempe the week of Aug 17.

Thanks guys, I think I'll be keeping indoors. I can't really risk damaging it.

I know that the inside of the cabinet of my Twin far exceeds 115 F after even a few minutes so I doubt that the heat of Phoenix summer will do it much harm. I'd be infinitely more concerned about the humidity of monsoon season. FWIW, I have an unventilated shed that has been used to store hand tools etc for nearly ten years. The area I live in is fairly high in elevation and I've seen outside temps of 17 F not to mention the times it's been about 100 F warmer than that. Nothing in that shed seems any worse for the wear, tools, manuals, wooden items, you name it. My gut feeling is that it'll do your amp no harm whatsoever.
