Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find some Laika tabs. They've got to be one of my favorite bands and I'd like to learn some of their tunes. Taught myself "N.Y '79" but I want to quickly learn somemore.

Anyone else else big Laika & The Cosmonauts fans?

I hadn't visited Surf Guitar 101 in awhile and I'm really excited that there's now a messageboard!

Science friction burns my fingers.

I love Laika's version of the Endless Summer song better than the original.

NY '79 is one of my favorites.

I have to say, the Endless Summer theme (and the film) planted the seed in my soul so many years ago, that would eventually grow into my current love with surf music. That song is one of my all time favorites. I have to hear Laika's version...and soon. Sry, I searched, but couldn't find any tabs.

I'm Batman...No not that Batman. :p

I shot an E-mail off to Matti Pitsinki asking if he knew of any tabs on the net for Laika.

I told him y'all were talking about him! Cool

I'll let y'all know when he responds.

Those guys were/are the greatest.
I was very futunate to get to know them as friends and tour with them in Finland in the early 90s and see them several times here in Austin.

Drummer Janne Havisto (I hope I spelled that right) got me my first record deal and produced High Noons frist and third albums.

They are just awesome live!
And the nicest buch of guys you'll ever meet.

The Thunderchiefs

I have yet to see them live, but I'm completely obsessed with all their recordings.

They'll be glad to hear that Tony.

I haven’t heard back from Matti yet and I'm about to be away from net access for a few days, I'm leaving to play a music fest in Hemsby England (small town on the beach no internet cafes'). I'll get back to ya next week.

Most of the Cosmonauts will be in Austin next week so if I don't hear from Matti I'll see him the end of next week and ask about the tabs.

The Thunderchiefs

Seeing Laika & the Cosmonauts twice in '95 is what finally sealed the deal for me, in terms of putting together a surf band and wanting to actually be a surf musician. Especially the second show I saw, they were just on fire! My jaw was on the floor half the show! It was there and then (sometime in the late Fall of '95) that I thought, I GOTTA do this! I'm not crazy about their most recent CD, and in general regret that they've pretty much left surf behnind completely, but I appreciate that they're a band that does things on their own terms, and I believe they have recorded some of the best surf/instro music of the last twenty years. They are amazing.

I guess I'm not exactly a surf purist, because I enjoy there last album and a lot of their non-surf stuff. Check out "Global Village" not exactly a surf tune, but my favorite Laika track.

Thanks for the effort krupanaut!!!

Damn I wish I closer to Texas...

I have to agree with some of you and say they are an amazing band.
Have seen them 3 or 4 times in the span of a weekend. Although I'm not real crazy about the over the top keyboard sound. I can look past that in appreciation of all of their great musicianship.
Would like it if they came back around to Ca.

Well so far I'm letting ya down,
I never got a chance to hook up with Matti during south by southwest.
We'll see if he e-mails me back once he gets home to Helsinki later this month.

We just added "NY '79" to our repertoire two days ago.
So now we play "The Ipcress File", "Aztec two-step", "Floating", and "NY '79" Smile

So, in Floating, what are you calling the second chord in the opening sequence? The key is C#min, so there's been some dissention in the ranks as to how to name that second chord. Can ya help a brother out? Smile

Thanks.

Sorry for the slow reply.
You know, I don't think I'm actually playing the "right" chord there, I'll have to get with my bass player and ask him as we originally figured out that song as a guitar duo (The Undergods) and he's the one who knows the names of all the chords.
Come to think of it, we may actually be playing it in a different key, we do that a lot to accomodate my horrible fretting technique. Embarassed

'Sokay, thanks for the note. If you want, I'll PM you the tabs I use for the four main chords in the opening sequence, you can see if they match your fingerings.
