Anybody have thoughts on these? I put a dual rail Li'l Killer on one of my strats and it sounds great for loud stuff. but I was wondering if anyone has tried their other pickups, like the overwound "Texas" set or the vintage sets.

I tried the fender texas specials. they suck. They scooped out the mid-range to help make what ever you play through sound like Stevies black face amp.

I've got a set of "Liverpool" filtertron style pickups coming I plan to put in an Epi Riviera. I'll report when I've got it done.

I've got a set of Lipsticks for my Squier Fat Telecaster, but I haven't yet got 'em installed for lacking a soldering iron and solder. I'm also planning to upgrade the switching to 4-way, and although I've already got the 4-way switch, I'm seriously thinking about replacing the Squier Fat Telecaster with a Fender Telecaster Custom. I s'ppose the Lipsticks would sound good in the Fender, but I'll probably try 'em in the Squier, until I can actually buy a Fender replacement. Sound wise, either guitar should have somewhat of a Danelectro like sound, without (hopefully) sacrificing the twang that Teles are known for.

I've used the overwound Alnico Strat set (not the Texas set) and considering they're price, they're good. I can get a nice Hank Marvin sound with them. I like the lead pickup in this set quite a bit, but the middle pickup is too "midrangey?"
I've used the lipstick tube Strat set and they sound mellower than a standard strat pickup set. I'd say they're good if you want to cut down on some of the Strat's brightness. (They are not my favorite though.) Overall, they sound a little dead to me.
I've used the lead humbucker sized "filter tron" (I forget what GFS calls it). I must say that I'm not a humbucker fan, but I really like this pickup. It's brighter than a PAF style. It's one of the BEST humbuckers I've ever used-really sweet and clear.
I've used a cheap GFS strat set (ceramic magnets). I bought 'em because they came pre-loaded on the pickguard and it was cheaper to buy these than the individual parts (I wanted the pickguard and covers). These are higher quality than your typical cheapo ceramic pickups. Oddly enough, I really like this set. They are clear, loud, bright, and have nice overtones.
