New Topic

I was sitting in the music room looking over my shoulder and saying "ohhh" and "ahhh" and thought I'd shoot some pics of this rig I picked up a few months ago but never got around to showing off to y'all.

65 Bandmaster found at a local shop for $300 in perfect working order.
The cab is a mojotone 1x15 Fender copy with a jbl D-120F I scored off ebay for $200 more.

Sounds killer and keeps up with my bandmate Mikes Showman no problem.
The trem is sweet!
Makes me smile.

Guess I could have just put this in the What amp do y'all use?, thread. Wink

Any body else pick up any new gear lately?

Great score on the Bandmaster - I've been jonesing for one of those myself - I blew up my shownam head at a gig, and been too depressed to take it in to get it fixed right away - and it made me think I could use a back up head.
I like your guitars too - is the strat a MIM 50's reissue in Fiesta red? I've been thinking about those too.....

Me too, either a Fiesta Red or a Daphne Blue.

Hey Krupa,
You don't keep your tank on top of the head when playing, right? I figure it was done to just show all the gear with a nice sense of symmetry...

And to answer your question, I picked up a Crate Power Block recently, and am awaiting arrival of my new Hallmark Sweptwing.

latest is a burford electronics ufo tremolo (see tremolo thread)

before that a G2D creamtone overdrive, an MI audio blues pro ovedrive, and one of those little epiphone one-knob amps. and before that a fiesta red jag, a carl martin surf trem and a Korg delay. Also some cab hardware (tilt legs and the thingies that go with it and beam blockers). all this in three to four months.
Sold a 1x15"with a JBL today, another cab a while ago (Ive been doing so much cab and speaker buying and selling with profit, that Im now basically playing free cabs and speakers Cool ), and some pedals. put some more pedals on ebay today. waiting for a strat steel tremblock to arrive, and a case for the jag. about to order a pair of 12"weber cali's, will then sell a pair of Jensen neo's.

it's giving me a headache Duh

Yep, i figure if you're gonna get a Mexican strat, its gotta be Fiesta red right?

I recomend the MIM reissues.
I love that guitar, The neck is killer and I really don't mind the pickups in it. It sounds great for alot of differnt styles.

Shaun,
Nice score on the Bandmaster! 1965 is a good year. Wink

I've got the 2x12 cab and often though about getting a 1x15 cab just for tonal differences. How you liking that?

Thought you'd dig the new rig Bill. Wink

I really love the 15' Jbl. It's much cleaner than the stock 2X12 Jensens or Oxfords .

I was a little worried that the bandmaster wouldn't keep up with Mikes showmans volume and stay clean but it works great.

My latest purchase:

Drool

Oh man, Jon, that sure is purty.

~B~

Jon, you should switch out your red jewel light. Mainly because I'm not a fan of the red.

Awesome, I got my showman a little over two years ago now. It hasn't let me down yet.

Haha thanks guys.

Jake, I'll keep that in mind.

The only thing I still have the red jewels on are my vintage tank and my Twin. My showman has a blue jewel, and my reissue tank has a green one. I have a purple and an amber as well, but can't commit to either of them just yet.

~B~

I have blue in all my stuff, and I forced a blue one on our bass-players bassman too.
it just sucks that they're not all the same shade of blue, some are more purple-ish (yet not purple, got those too)

WR

PS shouldn't we make this jewel topic a seprate thread and see if we can get it on the top 10 threads? give Bill a chance to "muse" some more Wink

Ahhhh, Wannes, you know me too well. Wink

I might actually be a bit worried if everyone thought jewel light color warranted a thread of its own, though anything is possible.

On an amusing side note, I had that happen in a music shop once - I came in, played a few guitars and whatnot, and struck up a nice conversation with the salesperson. We were shooting the breeze on the pros and cons of working music retail (as I had recently left my job at a music shop), and we were joking about how picky and idiosynchratic guitarist can be, how they spare no detail and all that good stuff. So, at the end of this interchange, the salesperson asked if they could help me, and I said "Actually, yeah, I need a blue and a purple jewel light, as well as three .011 gauge strings."

At the moment I am working on restoring, basically gutting and rebuilding my Magnatone MP-5 head and cab both 1966. I'll post some pictures in a bit...but they aren't pretty (yet). The cab is a monster 2x15 that measures about 4 1/2 feet by 2 3/4 feet , not sure on the dimensions right now, as I am at work. Strange piece of equipment, everyone thinks its a bass cab, and won't believe me, but it sounds beautiful. The head is in rough shape though, will take some time. Crying

Pics Please!!!
I love Magnatone amps.

The Thunderchiefs

I'll put a few up, I have to go take some pics anyway as part of my 'rebuilding' references. Do you own any Magnatone amps? I'm curious to see what other people know about these. There is a great site online, but have not found much on my particular amp.

I was lucky enough a while ago to get a Magnatone guitar, which for a long time, I didn't even know that they made. It's set up like a strat with the 3 pups, but has a JM/Jag style bridge. The switching is really fascinating -- a two-way slider on the top, and three two-way sliders down on the lower bout, about where the Jag's switches would be. They're not exactly "on-off" switches, but they sure do alter the tones.

Quite a steal for a vintage '65 at around $300.
