Well, I ended up ordering a DiPinto Galaxie IV blind form MF for $565 (no shipping charge) and also ordered a DiPinto hard case. Nobody sells them in NC btw, so I couldn't demo one.
Here's the breakdown:

Fit & finish was great!
-
Setup was very good - (I'm going to set it up with a little heavier gauge strings soon 11-50), but just a personal preferance.

Sounds great! I kind of thought the four single coils might be a bit redundant, but not so. All sound great alone and the various combonations are most cool. My two favs thus far are the bridge / neck or the two middle pickups.

The tremolo unit performs better than I expected and has exceeded my expectations.

The hard case is okay, but nothing to brag about.
Overall great bang for the buck, and the guitar really fills a void for Surf or Rock-A-Billy. No way could I afford a vintage Fender Jazz Master / Jaguar or <u>reissue</u> for that matter, so I think DiPinto is right on with their business model.
It is a shame that the guitars can't be made solely in the USA though. A guitar this cool should have an American flag stamped on it somewhere imho. Surf music is about as American as it gets!
About my only suggestion would be for DiPinto to offer some other colors. I ended up ordering the Los Straight Jackets model / color, but some guitars in surf green, fiesta red, ocean blue, etc, would be very cool.
I'll will gig with it this weekend and update the thread after some stage time.

Hey Morph:
That green one you show in you message is now mine. It's from the first production year I think. Several features on this guitar are no longer available. That green finish hasn't been offered for years. (Why, who knows. It's freaking beautiful!!) The 5-way switch is something else you can't get now, same goes for the floating, Rickenbacker bridge.
That last pic is of the hardtail now at Lark Street music. You can see the later TOM bridge. I compared it to mine. Very different feel and vibe. Sound, sustain, everything changes with the different bridge. Both have their uses, but I much prefer the older bridge style.
Some pretty interesting looking guitars, yes? My green one draws more comments and questions than anything I've ever played.

I searched long and hard for a used green model with the four rocker switches. Only ever saw one online that was sold years ago and was never taken down off of the site. Got my hopes up.

They really need to put out a surf green one with a white or tort pickguard. It'd climb up my gas list pretty quickly.

Here's the headstock on mine:
These guitars somehow manage to be outlandish looking and rather refined, at the same time. Neat trick. The oversized headstock makes the guitar feel LONG. Yet it's comfortable, perfectly balsnced.

The white one is the same I have. According to Chris DiPinto word on the DiPinto forum it was a custom color creation made with-for Ric Ocasek.
