Permalink Ibanez Talman TC530-PB

Ibanez Talman TC530. It's been said before and i think it's true, if you like strats then you'll take to the Talman like duck to water. Semi resin-cast body, quite a chunky birdseye maplewood photo-framed neck and three chrome plastic covered lipstick pickups.

There was enough room under the pickguard to fit just about any pickup around. This one had three lipstick pups that sounded like PING! PANG! Smile I bought and sold it before i discovered surf music so now i'm sort of kicking myself.

My son has a TV550. Black with gold hardware. He picked it out because it looked different than his friends guitars. Sounds pretty amazing. I don't know how to post a pic, so here's a link to one I found on the web.

It comes in lot of different configurations, some have wooden bodys too.

I remember that I liked them better than Charvel Surfcasters.

The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann

You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy.

I've never used a Charvel Surfcaster but i've seen some of their cheaper models. The Talman was neither cheap or expensive - around 350GBP ($560?) in mid to late 1990s, made in the same factory as the high end Joe Satriani model which also sported a resincast body. I wasn't fussy about the tremolo block, it was very cheap and nasty but i noticed this picture with a Wilkinson trem conversion. Don't be fooled into thinking it's some sort of beginners guitar.

Just bought one in pale blue. Any idea where I could look for a replacement pearloid pickgusrd?

Jeff

-too much gear is just barely enough-

I doubt standard replacements are available, but if you want to go DIY you can buy uncut ABS pickguard material from Guitarfetish. There's also pearloid stick-on sheets for sale on eBay; it looks like an easier solution but I have no idea if it looks like the real thing once installed.

These guitars look cool Cool

Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers.

Try searching with: Custom Pickguard. I've seen sites offering one-off custom pickguards in the past. They might need your old plate for a template though.
