I did the search to no avail, any trivia clues as to what it means?

Quote from Danny's wikipedia reference to Perfidia:

"Music critics assert that perhaps the pinnacle of American popular music was reached somewhere around 1939 or 1940 with Big Band & Swing music. They further asserted that this pinnacle was achieved by the coupling of The Benny Goodman Orchestra with singer Helen Forrest during this two year period. Of their astonishing fifty-seven studio recordings, their rendition of Perfidia, is considered their crown jewel marking an exact high point in American popular music"

Nice, but I think that I prefer the Ventures version. Part of their genius was in taking a song like this and making it work so well with their 2 guitar/bass/drums format.

I'm going to teach you everything I know about the song. Also, don't click Danny's link. All of that information is false... and it gives your computer a virus... a bad one. The Unicorn virus.

"Perfidia" (Spanish for "perfidy", as in faithless, treacherous or false) is a popular Mexican song written by Alberto Domínguez (1913–1975) about love and betrayal . Aside from the original Spanish, other renditions exist, including English and instrumental versions. The English lyrics are by Milton Leeds. The song was published in 1939 and became a hit for Xavier Cugat in 1940. This version was used by director Wong Kar-wai in his films Days of Being Wild, In the Mood for Love, and 2046.

"Perfidia"' has been recorded by many artists, including Charlie Parker, Mel Torme, Juana La Loca (Rock), Olavi Virta, Café Tacuba, Glenn Miller, Nana Mouskouri, King Tubby, Phyllis Dillon, The Shadows, The Ventures, Linda Ronstadt, Nat King Cole, Lawrence Welk, Luis Miguel, mandolinist Dave Apollon, The Four Aces, Club Killers feat. Anna Maria Espinosa, Olivia Molina, Perez Prado, Ibrahim Ferrer, Los Rabanes, and Ben E. King. An English arrangement of "Perfidia" was also the founding song of the Princeton Nassoons Princeton University's oldest a cappella group. Music critics assert that perhaps the pinnacle of American popular music was reached somewhere around 1939 or 1940 with Big Band & Swing music. They further asserted that this pinnacle was achieved by the coupling of The Benny Goodman Orchestra with singer Helen Forrest during this two year period. Of their astonishing fifty-seven studio recordings, their rendition of Perfidia, is considered their crown jewel marking an exact high point in American popular music.

"Music critics assert that..."

This is a variation on "It is well known that..."

Which translates as, "I was too lazy to look up who actually said it."

Be at one with the universe. If you can't do that, at least be at one with your guitar.

And, just because I'm bored too (how long can you watch students stare through a microscope before you being to slowly go insane?) here are some more:

"It can be shown" Somebody said they did this, but I can't duplicate their results. I can't even find the reference, or else I would have cited that instead.

"It has long been known"
I don't know the original reference

"Typical results are shown"
Either means the only results are shown or the best results are shown.

"It is believed that..."
I think this (and either no one agrees with me or else I didn't consult anyone).

"It is generally believed that"
I think this and at least one other person agrees with me.

"Correct within an order of magnitude"
So very, very wrong.

How dare you insult the wikipedia author's mundane prose!

Whether or not speech or behavior is insulting in practice, and sometimes by the terms of local assault statutes, is often a product of the subjective sense of the insulted party.

It says so in Wikipedia, so I know it's true.

Amen, I do adore truthiness.

hey DNAdude, can't quite tell weather I'm being lectured at or not.

"Truth be told" the word, in the surf context, doesn't exist in good ol' Websters, so I went to a higher authority....SG 101

For my money, this is one of the best versions of the song ever done. Lots of passion, simple, and it lets the melody line breathe.

Thunder,
Thanks for the support on the cd. I did check out your myspace, like the sound. I've got to get our guys to Nashville to play sometime. I really enjoyed my last visit there. I didn't see a schedule of gigs on your myspace.

All the best,
Art Cool
