Vintage Miki Dora footage with music by The Supertones.
This really captures the essence of the sport and the music. With a baritone guitar even. As one who grew up in the 60's and surfed, for me this really nails the entire attitude.
"Miki Dora was probably the purest surfer who ever waxed a board.
He had a style that was completely his own. He was remarkable."

It is a live track. It is up on their myspace page. I really like the songwriting, but I'd love to hear a better recording of it. Reminds me of a Cosmonauti song I really love.

Dora was a "legend" for his surfing skills not his social skills. His biography is an interesting read. Unfortunately, he went through a number of periods where he had a tough time dealing with everyday life. To say he was eccentric is an understatement.

much thanx guys, you all are dead on, i come form an old ca surfing family and water men and i started surfing in 1963 right at the height of whole surfing thing and i loved every thing surf, surf mags, surf books, surfboards, and surf music,i used to order super 8 surfing clips form "surfer" of dora and watched them in slow-mo while listening to the ventures surfing LP those two things have been my two biggest infrequence dora with his pure focus when he rode Malibu and the ventures song writing i think that most of the tunes on the ventures "surfing LP were written by them i know they didn't write pipeline, windy & warm, and diamonds but the rest are classic ventures tunes
cheers

I found these comments on Dora very interesting.
"Mickey Dora personified the rebel-surfer; inspiring a generation to defy convention and take off on that wave. But he was also a mystery and a tangle of contradictions."
"At the height of his influence, he disappeared. Did he know something about the future? Or was he on the run from his past ? Follow one man's search for the legendary Mickey Dora; what happens when a lost idol doesn't want to be found?"
I was flying the helicopter along the beach in Malibu yesterday morning. Could not help thinking about "Da Kat."
