Dear all!

Thanks for the great feedback.
And thanks for the good critics, we are here to learn...

And in spite of that, I´m conscious that there could have been more counterpoint and stuff...but hey! we were not trying to "authentic" all the way through...it´s our intepretation, and we strongly assure it´s 150 %
coming out from our little bopping hearts!

The show went really well, and those who were there know what kind of atmosphere was created...the Muse was there.

But time and place are not to be captured on either tape or film, so what you see is a merely "two dimensional" caricature of the event.
We could longer discuss what is really involved in making records too, but that could be a complete new discussion for a new topic.

I tend to believe it´s a good document,
And deep in my heart, there will be always some part of that feeling/spirit that, even if just shortly, poured upon audience and musicians as well.

I hope my english is good enough javascript:emoticon(':D')

Best wishes to everyone, and those who support us, keep on doing that, we appreciate it!

xxx

Alex

Very Happy

You sound fine, Alex, better than many Americans I've read (unfortunately). Once again, very inspiring piece, and thanks for dropping by!

Very Happy

Please do, we're recording a record this summer and would love some discussion.

The fugue is one of my favorite types of music, and the counterpoint is, to me, what makes it what it is. Having said that, I'm happy to see people stretching the limits of surf/instro music, and I respect anybody who puts their heart into what they do.

Be true to your muse and do your own thing. That's what keeps the style alive.

Same here!

Wow! I thought that was phenomenal! That seems about as difficult as it must get to arrange as a surf song, but I think they pulled it off pretty well. I think if you want to cover a piece like that, you can choose to treat it as a fugue or you can choose to treat it as a surf song, and the guys sorta leaned towards the latter, but it worked for me. They did make a good nod to the whole fugue form while Yolanda was playing counterpoint on that one verse (I don't know the technical terms for how this piece is broken down), which I thought was pretty tasteful.

It's hard to keep a forward flow with a piece like that, but the song maintained a good sense of tension and mystery throughout, and that latin groove kept things cohesive. Whoulda thunk!? By arranging it their own way and by throwing in their trademark latin flair, it was totally original. I'm stoked by it!

cool twang marvels
but this music it,s little bored for me...

I prefer Latin=rock Twang Marvels style
is sooooo greatªªª

don,t like so much classic music...
too much classic music in my family my parent play
in classic music band..and it,s so bored
I was born in rock,n,roll and jazz times....

It's yours and the others right to claim boredom from this song, but I claim the right to think less of your opinions for now on. Confused

That was great. God damn naysayers ,that was awesome stuff Alex. Keep it up!

Science friction burns my fingers.

Dear All,

This topic is in a way so related to the one where "Tradition & Evolution of Surf Music" (great thread BTW) was being "treated"...what follows would perhaps be better placed there.

There is a greater picture than "Like & Dislike" or "Boring & Entertaining".

For a tradition to be declared as such, I believe and I´ve heard, must have been around for longer that +/- 150 years. That means it takes a couple of generations applying and combining "old" with "novel" playing techniques and recalibrating/reinventing both instruments and Calisthenics. Sometimes there are some leaps in time too...think of Hendrix for instance...you may "like" or "dislike" what he did and how he did it, but you must agree that guy was connected with something beyond "taste".

Electric guitar has been around already quite a bit...and there seems to be a common sense of it as THE popular music instrument of the century.
And there are so many different "dialects" as great players out there...
Some times a phenomenal process takes place, such as Youth cultural movements of the ´50 & ´60, remember that electric guitar was already been produced industrially, for the "mass".

That was the frist time in history that musical instrument would become available to so many people in such a "little" time, potentially, providing you had the money to purchase it, along with an Amp.

Don´t want to make a scholar paper out of this, it is just a reflexion on the matter, just wanted to share some thoughts a bit with you guys and girls...

And getting back to Bach, the Bach Festival in Leipzig invited us to play on this year´s one. So we worked out some more stuff, it´s coming little by little, and I will post some more, promised!

As far as I know, this is "Terranova".
I remember The Baronics did some baroque stuff too, they were amazing, though they did Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven and I think one or two Bach pieces...but the versions where really great. Way a lot of (old & new) Instro bands would do Classical oriented versions, and that´s awesome, since is a source of ideas to be translated into other "dialects" is a way of keeping the fire and not getting stuffy.

Though I don´t know of other bands doing only Bach stuff...I might be wrong...

Thanks for your time...best vibes!

Alex

I really liked this, and think that if anyone wants to do this kind of thing, more power to them.

If I were in a surf/instro band I don't think I would take a stab at a classical song.

that being said, I don't think we have to worry about everybody that has seen this and liked it to run off and try their hand at a Back, or any other classical song.

it is a off the Radar/odd kinda thing.
but I dug it none the less.

Yep, still amazing. Anyone try pressing that "1911" button in the lower right side of the player? Odd. Funny, but odd.

This is still one of my favorite youtube videos ever. I come back to it a lot, regularly even.

I'm just gonna say it: Alex is the finest surf guitarist alive Worship , if not the best the genre has ever seen. In my opinion, our silly little genre is lucky a guy that talented decided to pursue surf at all.

Surf + Bach = sonic nirvana
