As much as I´m crazy for reverb, what really gets me is a good melody. Man or Astroman wannabes bore me to tits.

I would argue that Man or Astro-Man? has some great melodies. For example, the solo on Bermuda Triangle Shorts is my favorite melody on any non-classical song. |

Lately, I've been digging the German style, whodathunkit? —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

he said MOAM wannabes. We've got one of those here, the I-dont-want-to-practice-machine-gun-picking-so-I'll-just-use-heavy-distortion-and-crazy-effects kind. the guy plays a RI jag with .09 steel roundwounds. Oh well, whatever makes him happy, I guess. WR EDIT: I forgot to atually answer the question. I like all styles of surf, and it comes in waves (duh) some times 'll play mainly 1st wave hard and fast, other times I'll play more melodic, almost easy-tune like 3th wave stuff. I also find whether I like a band doesn't really depend on the style. of every style there are bands I love and bands I dislike. —Rules to live by #314: |

I love it all. I especially love the garagey teen bands, which is really at the heart of surf, but I also have to mention the "studio surf" as a sub-category. Sometimes nothing hits the spot like the Gary Usher/wrecking crew stuff ala the Superstocks, Hondells instrumentals etc. Polished, but powerful. —http://www.satanspilgrims.com |

I don't think I'm making a new catagory when I say Drag/Surf. Can't get enough of that certain sound. Reverb and backbeat inspired |

I can't say I love all types of surf music but the garagey teen bands and the studio surf stuff are definitely among my favorite styles too. — |

I guess I was gushing , but I was referring back to the start of the thread where the distinction was made between Dick Dale style and Surfaris style. So, I meant all in the early 60s blueprint, template, originators sense. —http://www.satanspilgrims.com |

I like Hard Listening music. I want somethingthat technically catches my attention and draws it in. I want my jaw bruised from hitting the floor. —There is Surf east of Sepulveda. |

I like music that doesn't suck. (And some that does.) Lyrics aren't necessarily required. I try not to get too into the labeling part of it. -Warren —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |
