Question about playing live

Up till now, they've been playing smaller shows just using their amps and a couple of mics. This show is a local fest and will be providing the sound. I talked to the organizer last night and she told me the band would plug into a "snake". I have no idea what this is and she couldn't really explain it to me. Can anyone explain what a snake is? Is that just for the mics or will the amps be going through it too. Sorry I'm so clueless about this but I'm more of a guitar+amp guy. Thanks Top

Posted on Jun 17 2009 07:30 AM I wouldn't worry about it too much - as long as you take your amps guitars and leads you'll have enough - the sound people should have everything. They may mic up the amps (but maybe take a direct feed off the bass) but they'll have mics for this. If they do mic up the amps, they'll probably get you to turn them down... If the band is going through a decent PA, there will be monitors so you can hear the other members - take some time to make sure you can hear what you are used to hearing - the sound balance will be different to a normal gig, so if you need the bass to know where your guitar fits in, make sure you can hear the bass in the monitor. Obvious, but it can be overlooked and will really ruin your gig. Trust your PA guy (it's all you can do) and get someone to listen to you and let you know if anything is lacking. If someone thinks you sounded awesome, the it's down to the PA guy,not you! Take some time to thank the PA guy as it's a pretty thankless job! Take spare leads and it's wise to marke them so you know what's yours - it's easy to lose stuff amongst all the cables! Have fun D — http://thewaterboarders.bandcamp.com/ Top
