Hearing Lada say "Johnny Wanker" in the middle of that was priceless. Is the footage in the video from a video for the Strange that I perhaps haven't seen? Or a Bambi Molester's video I haven't seen. |

Here's a rough translation: The segment first talks about the Bambis starting to play live again after disappearing for several years. The narrator says that at a recent show the band presented new, "eclectic" songs which announce the arrival of a new album. Lada denied that they disappeared, instead describing the period as one of 'creative procreativity' where the band took the time to have kids. She said that the band got burned out playing so many shows and doing the Strange album, and they needed to take some time to breathe and work on new songs. Dalibor talks about their parental duties which precluded any activities for a while. Lada says that she played a show while pregnant, about 3 months, and if she was playing keyboards she could have done it further into the pregnancy, but with bass, it wasn't possible. The woman with funky hair is a photographer that's known them for a long time, first shooting them around '95 or '96. The Croatian "Southern good ol' boy' with a straw hat says that the Bambis are the best surf band in Croatia, and probably much further, and that a case could be made they're even the best surf band in the world, which was recognized by REM when they invited the Bambis to open a bunch of their European shows. The reporter says that Lux Interior said the Bambis are his favorite band, to which Lada corrects her: 'were', and then says that Lux was a very happy person and she's very sad he passed away. She said that a friend of a friend of his told the Bambis that Lux never threw a party without playing some Bambis. She said playing with the Cramps was one of her favorite experiences, playing twice with them in Ljubljana and Zagreb. Lada then talks about the Johnny Wankers in Brazil (copying their style of name) who cover the Bambis and put up videos of them playing those songs on YouTube, and it sounds really good, three kids, 'props to them' (so to speak!). Then Chris Eckman talks in English - really pissing me off in the process. According to him, the Bambis are not playing surf music anymore - God forbid that any surf band that actually does something creative and personal should still be considered surf. Oh, no, that's not allowed! We're gonna put surf music in a box, and don't you f***ing dare try to pull it out of that box! Ugh... OK, end of the editorial by me. Anyway, Dalibor talks about regreting ending the Strange (for which Chris Eckman sang), in the end it turned out to be just a project, despite them saying at the time it was a real band. He says they played quite a bit, a lot in Croatia and also Austria. Lada says about them transcending surf: if Chris says it, he's their producer so it much be true! Then she's says she's kidding. But she says that even with their last album (13 Sonic Bullets) they were already going beyond what some people connect with surf music, short songs in major keys, happy, jump-up-and-down music. She says she thinks they broadened the sound. The photographer woman talks about directors such as David Lynch, Tarantino, that if they heard the Bambis they'd definitely use their music for their films - if Jonathan Demme used them, why not? (Did he? I didn't know about that.) Dalibor says he'd love to have their songs used by Tarantino in a movie - it would be nice to have that when he was old. That's about it! —Ivan |

Thanks so much for the translation. Regarding Demme using them in a film. I did a search on IMDB first for Demme, and then for Dalibor Pavicic. I can't see any of the Demme films having Bambi Molesters in it. I've seen a number of the films made while the Bambi's have been active and I can't recall their songs being used. Dalibor is listed as the composer for a Croatian film and The Bambi Molesters are listed for a German film. Didn't search under Dinko's name though. |

Thanks for the translation Ivan. And agree about Mr. Strange's comments. Because of course, you can't be creative in the surf genre as we all know. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

A song from the Croatian film was featured on our podcast #2, it's called Winter in Rio and it's a fantastic song. Thanks Ivan, I was really curious as to what was being said. —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

That's the best live Bambis footage i've seen, i have their Backstage Pass DVD which although very interesting you're mainly teased with fragments of footage. Thanks for this Ivan, you're so right about the Chris Eckman segment, i felt the same way immediately but couldn't put it into words. thanks also for the translation. |
