Holy friggin' crap. You gotta be kidding me. You can't honestly believe that someone would pay two large JUST for a case. Jeeeeez. That case is supposedly "worth" more than any single guitar that I own.

It's definitely more than the current price for a Jaguar or Jazzmaster, at Musician's Friend! If I happened to "just have" $1900.00 laying around, right now, I think I'd be buying me a Jazzmaster. How many people do ya know that play their guitar case? Save for maybe the folks that own vintage Silvertone amp-cases...and then there's a gutiar in the mix, somewhere.

Even then.... I picked up one of those not too long ago, with a NOS speaker and everything in it (plus the guitar, of course) all for $300. Hell, if I had $1900 laying around, I'd buy a couple of guitars... or another REALLY nice Mosrite. And it would come with a hardshell case, dammit!

cannot tell you anymore than anyone has posted. i messed with one for a few months back in the late 60s because jack bruceused one during the earlydays with cream. he switched to the sg style basses by creams 2nd album. the thing was an oddball axe, action was decent but it was not my trip. too many switches and crap. also saw the dave clark 5 use one on the ed sullivan show. yes it did squeal when the amp was cranked. don't care to mess with another one.

yeah we did call them the fender iv bass. thought it needed blood or something.

I think we had a thread on expensive pickguards on teh yahoo list once, I rember a post form Dave wronski that explained how if you had an original guitar sans original guard, the value of the guitar would increase more then the $1000+ for the guard, so it was a fair price.

I guess the same goes for the case. Someone should "ask seller a question" though, asking whether he thinks it would fit a Kramer guitar.... just to see it pop up at the block below the auction. Smile

That maybe so, but the pickguard is still not worth that much. The guy is probably parting out his Bass VI. To me that's greedy and ruining a rare guitar.

dude, even I got that, i.v. ... intra-venous ... what, you never watched E.R. ? Very Happy

what I don't get is that iv is 4 in roman numbers, not 6...?

Hell, I always read roman numerals as numbers not letters... I guess I still shoulda been able to figure out, though.

back to topic - what do you guys think of the hybrid design of the bass IV, with the strat-upper-horn?

I always thought it ugly, but now, I see the baritone jag and the jag-bass, and I think something's just wrong with the design. mental imprint of standard original designs I guess.

What's this Bass IV I keep hearing about?

I like the horn, it makes the overall body shape look rounder. Looks nice with the lower jag horn. I also like the strat/jag pickguard.

One of the Fender VI's greatest appearances:

The guitar Niegel Tuffnel says "not to touch, don't even look at it." when he's giving Rob Riener a tour of his guitar collection in Spinal Tap. And it's a seafoam green with matching headstock (find another!) -- still got the tagger on it, too.

I played the Custom Bass VI @ NAMM last year throught a Twin 15' and it sounded good. Unfortunately, they were demo-ing the Supersonic next to me with a thousand dudes standing around ---so, hard to hear myself play but I liked it. I wish they were cheaper. At the price they charge they must make them one at a time. I mean, they must get a plank of wood and hand-carve the thing. $3K+ ??? Wow.

for all my bass/baritone needs a squier custom2 with baritone strings tuned b-b does good things for me. i bought the guitar in a rush and found out that i did not like it as much as i thought i would. i recorded all the stuff for my band with it and a complete christmas album. its actually the best 10 euro mod that yu can do to a guitar that otherwise will be collecting dust. imho ymmv

Chris,
The Jag BassVI and the Mosrite both look pretty shabby -- I think you should just give them to me Wink Wink Wink

Seriously, those are some beautiful guitars.
