i have purchased a FENDER mexi-strat w/ trem bar and i also bought a live wire RV-7 stereo reverb... i will be using my EGNATER 4212 tourmaster head and EX-cab... i guess my question is; where do i start in learning how to play surf guitar?????

any help would be greatly appreciated

JAM OR BE JAMMED

Do you play guitar well?

You could start learning surf songs, and learning the techniques that they contain. Also, it always pays off to learn more scales and chords.

yes... i play decent... i know major, minor, penatonic and diatonic scales... i know maybe 150 chords by memory... surf is a completely new realm to me... i mostly palyed metal, rock, a little SKA and a little funk

JAM OR BE JAMMED

Listen to the various types of surf music, 1st wave for the basics and the new bands to hear what's going on nowadays. Decide if you want to play more traditional vs progressive, laid back vs aggressive, covers vs original material, all of the above?

i am not a perfectionist nor do i ever care to be... perfectionist are losers because nothing is ever right to them and they can never rest because of that.. if i said something that set you off.. then you should try talking with me about it instead of CHALLENGING me to an internet argument... OK

Ha! What a douche. I hope he meant to reply to Zak with that. Especially since Brian didn't challenge him to anything.

Also, you asked the question on a public internet forum so you should accept that fact that what you say could be openly debated by those who read what you say.

Jake, clearly some people are perfectly capable of being losers without even bothering to give perfectionism a try. ;)

He is really good at that. I respect his overwhelming ability to fail so completely without even giving a shot at getting anything perfect.

I didn't challenge you to an argument. I asked you to follow common forum protocol and etiquette by naming your threads with a descriptive title. This helps future searches.

When faced with 40 unread threads, what do you think someone is going to click on:

"OK...... now what??????"

or

"What can I do to be a better musician?"

In other words, you will get better answers by naming your threads in a descriptive manner, and you will help future searches.

One might add...duhhh.
Don't argue with the Forum owner!!
Which happens to be Brian!

Do you OWN any surf music? Do you have an ear for figuring out what you are hearing? We played all the classics to get things started. Then we progressed to our take on what we wanted to add. Dont play surf 'cause it happens to be cool right now. Play surf because you can never get enough! My handle might be newbie but Ive been at this game a while. http://www.reverbnation.com/surfbound other shameless self promo upon request, tubedog.
