I'm actually considering doing a lead. Will anyone mind if i do it very badly????? I can go last...that way everyone can get alcohol on board & working before I assault your tender ears.

too all that are considering joining in on the Jam,
I would highly suggest to those that know they are not great players
to rethink wanting to play.
I dont want to come off as a dick.
but would you want to watch somebody get up and hack away at a song.
its not really fun to watch.
I signed up for a few standards that I know well, for last year.
but because of time, all those songs got cut.
but I was able to get up and do Taco Wagon, with Ivan, Danny, and Jeff U.
and there was a point where I totally went to the wrong part of the song,
about 5 to 10 seconds early.
luckily it was a similar sounding part.
but I felt right then, that the 30 times going over the song, the week prior,
did no good, and I wished I wasn't up there at that moment.
so please if you are new to guitar, and or, coming back to it after a long time away, reconsider if you really want to sign up for the Jam.
this is not a Blues Jam,
its essentially a cover version note for note.
by 4 people that haven't played together before.
so you have to know the song backwards and forwards blindfolded.
sorry if this is too rude.

No worries. I forgot the after the last sentence. I'm mostly kidding about playing lead....depending on the song. Part of the reason I haven't said anything for a while about the jam is that I'm not sure if I'm going to try it or not. I know I'm new, and don't have the ability to change up on the fly. I won't waste anyone's time unless I'm positive that I can play it dead on, at any tempo.

Jeff,
I think you are too close to this to be objective. Seeing some of the "amateurs" play was a highlight of the day. They played with great enthusiasm, and in most cases were fine players (was anybody worse than my group of "pros"?) Also, these people left the stage with a huge smile, and left the Conference with a great story to tell.
The conference isn't just a show, it's all the people that make up the SG101 community coming together, putting a face on the avatar. SG101 is a place where longtime players share knowledge with newbies, there is no "us and them" here. Maybe we will have more respect for someone's online opinions after seeing them play. Maybe less if they blow.
FWIW,
ferenc

I only signed up last year to fill in on songs that didn't have guitarists already volunteered.

ok so maybe I jumped the gun a bit.
but at the same time.
I don't think it would be good to have someone who just picked up the guitar
a few weeks ago.
use your best judgment.

Jeff,
How about a live forum for beginning guitarists led by somebody like like PJ or Eddie? Noobs could ask "How do I perfect my gliss" and vets could share some knowledge.

Kristena(aka Tikitena) put this together for me/us.
and she went public with it today I think.
I will join in on it, when she shows me how to run it.
yes I am a computer dummy.
please add us, and pass this on to all your myspace friends.
even if you are not planning on coming.
if you have any suggestions for additions to the myspace
either post here, or mention it on there.
thanks.

Hey Brian I was noticing some of the comments were about the podcast and the site in general,
kinda funny.
maybe Kristena or I could remake the sg101 myspace.
after we get the convention all taken care of.

This would be a cool thing to include in the 2010 convention: we could have some "How To" sessions...I'd like Dario to hold an "How to Bias your tube amp for Dummies" session...and I'd like Prof Ivan to discuss "Fret-hand trills and double-stops"...Also, Paul Johnson could hold the "How to be cool, calm and collected while absolutely shredding" session...
