Just curious. What's the deal with horror-surf? I've noticed that a shitoad of surf bands are associated (at least in art work) with monsters and such. Is there a direct correlation that I'm unaware of?

Define a shit load...? For modern bands, The Ghastly Ones obviously come to mind. Satan's Pilgrim's Creature Feature album is horror themed. And then there is Gein & The Graverobbers. I suppose it goes back to the 60's with the monster novelty records: Frankie N Stein, The Deadly Ones, The Ghoul's Dracula's Deuce, etc. The artwork of Ed Roth from the 60's was an influence I'm sure. He drew some cool monsters in hot rods, etc. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

It is too bad that SunDazed never re-released this on CD. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Let us not forget Los Straitjackets doing the Munsters Theme. That song is in heavy rotation in surfabilly and horror surf bands I've seen. All of which, have been really lame. Probably shouldn't be allowed to call themselves a band. They probably all get together in their ex-stepdad's basement, drink PBR, and play crappy songs while they pretend to be rocks stars while they try to mix the punk rock ethos with 50s minded culture. Those being, of course, guidelines for an epic fail. |

Sundazed did reissue that Ghouls album on CD its catalog number SC 6246. Or at least it used to be My new band, "The What?!?" are kind of horror surf. Kinda the Cramps, Famous Monsters influenced. Our first gig is next month. Cross your fingers for us! —the Keef Richards of Surf Guitar |

There was no ragging on PBR. It is just a fact that the drink of choice of the people I was ragging on drink PBR for nutrition. |

No J_Razor, SunDazed never released that Ghouls LP on CD. If you search for it on Amazon you'll see it that it says "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer." —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I tend to believe Brian hit it. Just off of this board, I can think of quite a few more that might qualify. Atomic Mosquitos I think it originally also may have been spawned by the wave of surf monster movies that came out back in the day. I can't, however, explain the resurgent popularity of PBR. —Will "You're done, once you're a surfer you're done. You're in. It's like the mob or something. You're not getting out." - Kelly Slater |

It is a bummer. Yeah, SunDazed announced it at one point but to my knowledge it got pulled for some reason. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I can explain the popularity of PBR- $6.34 for a 12 pack, and for cheap beer it's very drinkable. Oh, and it tastes good too. |

Last Friday night I was drinking 16oz PBR in a can for $2.50. The price is right —https://www.facebook.com/killersfromspaceband |

Monsters are just cool!
I admit, I'll drink PBR now and then if I want some beers but I don't want to get too wasted, it's probably 1% alchohol. Plus, it is cheap! —Paul |

I know this is an old thread, but I recognize the "Monster Melodies" cover. I have this on cd. I bought it at a record convention years ago along with "Horror Hop" cd. All the tunes are Halloweeny, but not surfish. |
