I would love to go to California it's the only part of the states i haven't visited yet. We Canadians are deeply surf deprived up here. If thing work out the way i would like the Treblemakers will be my first surf show.

Dick Dale did a show in Vancouver last fall and the Surf Coasters were in Seattle not so long ago either. Seattle is only a couple hours drive from where I am in BC. —Mel |

January 1994, Dick Dale with the Eliminators at the Coachhouse, San Juan Capistrano. Took my bro-in-law (20 years my senior) for his birthday & I knew he dug surf. I was the only person there under the age of 40 who wasn't employed by the venue, I think. —Radio Free Bakersfield--60 Minutes of TWANG, CRUNCH, OOMPH. |

I really tried to make time to get to the Surf Coasters but just couldn't do it. Drat! I'm not really into DD so I passed up that one. —Mel |

Did you get a chance to catch the Surf Coasters in Vancouver in 2005? In my opinion that was the best show that I ever saw them play. I forget the name of the club. It was an Australia/New Zealand club. Great audience and great set despite gear issues. |

I saw Dick Dale open for the Beach Boys at Kanocti Harbor in Clearlake, CA in "98 (I think). I walked by Dick out on the street but was too afraid to approach him... Bob |

The Space Cossacks @ galaxy hut in Arlington VA. I was at first annoyed that a band was setting up in such a small bar, it's like 50 seats tops. Once they started playing I was amazed at the talent and the style of music. Until that point I really did not realize that other people in my age group liked surf music. |

We don`t get many surf shows in the UK but the 1st one I saw was Jon & the Nightriders at Dingwalls in London in 1982 when I was 14. — |

My 1st surf show, uhh, besides us by ourselves, was playing with 'The Raybeats' in NYC at a club called 'Hurrah!s' in 1980. Very jazzy surf! Leader/bassist George Scott had never heard of Davie Allan and i was gonna make a tape for him, but he sadly OD'd soon after (to be replaced by Danny Amis ,current Los Straitjacket). We opened up for The Ventures in 1982 ,in Wash, DC, that was great, and the next year they played @ the Washington Monument w/ the Beach Boys! "yes, hope for America', I thought!! |
