I wonder if the bands that were able to actually make a living playing surf in the 90's will be represented at all - Satan's Pilgrims, the Bomboras, Man or Astroman ...

Ron, I think you need to go back and read TDsurf's description of the film - it's about the 60's surf culture boom and the music - nothing more. It's not a Ken Burns produced 22 hour all encompassing epic documentary meant to be the last word on surf music through the ages. I know Tom has filmed anything and everything related to surf music for the last 2 years that came to SoCal. Just because he filmed, it doesn't mean it's going to be in the movie. I'm sure there will be some mention of todays surf bands, and the 80's surf revival, but I don't think any real time will be spent on it - hell, the documentary is only an hour long. I personally hope for a second disc on the dvd with hours and hours of footage that didn't make the cut. —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

Yep, I know. It's just too bad you have to be buddies with the film makers to get included in these things! I believe Micheal Lastra of SMEGMA studios had something to do with the Portland film project. Ron —Contact me for Rare Sixties Music Video |

I think any band that has a Wikipedia page deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... |

I do not see it much complicated... I don't understand why you are making it so. He has tried to do his best to involve all 60s artists and people related to the surf music movement to have people understanding the roots of this music. Having one modern band or another do not make the movie. Is the historic aspect that makes it. It's the Rendezvous Ballroom footage that makes it. It is a documentary, not a live concert dvd. What is in the movie are "samples" of surf music and how it has evolved. I think the guys have done an excellent job in putting their effort to produce a product that will be a manifest when someone will ask you what surf music is. Around the world, NOT SO-Cal only. Please remember and be advised that Surf Music in Europe is generally bigger and better paid than in the States. Not because Europe is better, not at all, I love California, but it is just because live music has followed different rules during the years. BUT there is a lot of confusion, a lack of basic culture for many aspects, missing the contacts with the ROOTS. It is what this movie explains and I will do my best to sell as many DVD I can. It has been a pleasure to have Tom and John at the Surfer Joe Summer fest last year, in the end just because I am a fucking idealist still loosing money in doing surf events when everybody suggests me to involve garage, beat, rockabilly, pop and more to give more variety... but I'm still into that and I don't change my mind. But that's my business. But seeing someone who have traveled to produce for the first time a documentary explaining what surf music is, is good. Again don't get your ego involved in this, it makes no sense really. And also... if Dick Dale will not be included in the movie it is not what SOTS wanted. The surf music community is so small that if we get the ego involved we are fucked. Use this DVD to book more gigs instead... —Lorenzo "Surfer Joe" Valdambrini |

Just my humble opinion... I've been in 10 different surf bands going back to the early 80's. Dave Wronsky asked me to fill in for Dusty w/Slacktone and my schedule got in the way. I'm pretty stoked to have been able to play with alot of great folks! I wasn't called for the drum DVD and it's all cool. They can't fit in everyone. —Jeff Utterback |

If you've got a camera and know how to use any basic non-linear editing software you can make your own documentary. It's D.I.Y, not C.R.Y. — |

Does Godwin's law come into effect here???? Please, do stop trying. The only "comments" you've made have been to bash the filmmakers about not including you. Then you chime in with no Dick Dale. If you read the description, you'll see that they've included members of the Del-Tones. Where is Dick? Lets see. They filmed it last year, so I guess he was a little preoccupied with other things. Kwicherbichin and support the film. Maybe if it does well enough, they'll be a sequel. —Will "You're done, once you're a surfer you're done. You're in. It's like the mob or something.
