I've decided to sell my CIJ Jaguar - it's been a great backup/practice guitar, but I'm eyeballing another Gretsch and I'll have to sell the Jag to keep things level.
It's a CIJ in Lake Placid Blue w/ white pickguard and original Fender hardshell case (black tolex). I've upgraded it with Mustang saddles from Allparts, but will include the original threaded saddles. Other than that, it hasn't been modded at all and is in perfect working order. I do have a couple of the infamous 3/8" washers for the collet mod that I'll throw in - just never got around to putting them on.
It's a fantastic player and sounds like a good Jag should. I've been using it for practice quite a bit, and this guitar definitely made me a believer in Jaguars - the neck pickup sounds better than any Strat neck pickup I've played, the bridge is so twangy it puts it nearly in Tele territory, but without being as nasal/annoying as Teles can often get. The center position is pure surf, just like you expect it to be.
The scale length makes it a lot of fun to play, and I didn't notice any ill effects swapping between this and guitars with longer scale (both 24.6" and 25.5"). All the electronics work perfectly, with a good useable sweep on both volume and tone pots.
The neck is my favorite part of this guitar - it's nice and solid without being stupid thick, but feels much more substantial than the flimsy "Modern C" necks on most modern guitars. Very comfortable, very fast, with no issues whatsoever. The vintage-style tuners hold well and tune up easily.
Cosmetically it has its share of scratches and dings - mostly on the back and some nicking on the edge of the lower bout - but overall it's in good shape and the Lake Placid Blue is a fantastic color. There is a small ding on the face of the guitar near the tremolo plate. This is slightly visible in the large versions of the body shots. Also, there is a small series of tiny clear coat dings on the face that are only visible in certain angles/lighting and won't photograph at all. The case has some exterior wear - but hey, that's what it's for! - but the plush lining is in excellent shape, and neither it nor the guitar carry any smoke/bar odor.
Asking $550 plus shipping, or best reasonable offer. Fender's recent price jump put the AVRI Jags out of reach for a lot of us, but that just means these CIJs are even better values than they were before!
I've added some pics below, and you can check out several more at this album link: http://s688.photobucket.com/albums/vv242/ThinkingChimp/Fender%20Jaguar%20-%20CIJ%20Lake%20Placid%20Blue/

Somebody better jump on this deal, cause it's sweet, and I really shouldn't be buying more guitars at this point, or I would jump!

Now Pyronaut... that kind of talk doesn't put the LPB Jag in your hands, now does it?
Thanks for the kind words. I'm trying to price it fairly since it's not a collector's piece but a great player, so hopefully it'll stay here in the SG101 family. This guitar deserves to rip glissandos for many years to come!

I am seriously considering purchasing this and throwing my Dipinto on Ebay to cover some of the costs. Hmmm.. I will get back to you. It would surely be an upgrade. How much to ship to 06811 ?

surferXmatt - Just sent you a PM that I think you might want to read!
Staredge - You're right about the Park Tool blue! I have a whole host of Park tools in my basement from my days as a bike mechanic, and in the picture they are very similar. In person, not quite as much, but good catch.

I'd know those tool handles anywhere. I've got a bunch in my garage as well. Used to work in a shop as well. Don't ride as much as I'd like these days though.

Ain't that the truth! Between work, kids, house, etc. I'm lucky to even look at one of my bikes, let alone throw a leg over one! The wife and I are eyeballing a trailer setup for the kids, though, so hopefully I'll be back in the saddle in short order.

Nice looking Jag.
Don't most CIJ Jags have a matching headstock? Did I imagine that? Or are only some made during a certain time period equipped with the matching headstock?

The '66 RI's are the ones with matching headstocks and block inlays, depending on the finish.
LPB, Oly White and OCR all have matching headstocks.

For what it's worth, this is a Q-series serial number. I also did a bit more digging and found my correspondence with the original owner, who purchased it new in 2004 and said it was made between 2002-2003.
Hope that's helpful.

The MIJ/CIJ versions from the 90's had matching headstocks.

Scot - I won't be selling it now as stated above. I would love to pitch it and offset the cost of another guitar, but it will be hard for me to come up with the difference at this time. Anyway, if I ever decide to sell I will certainly offer it up on sg101.
Honestly, the Dipinto is really cool. Very well built, great sound and feel. Amazing sparkley clean tones.
If you ever see one in a shop it is definitely worth giving it a try. Obviouslly it will not compare to one of your vintage treasures, but for the money I think it imitates the Jag and Jazzmaster pretty well.
Later.

I dont just love the vintage treasures, I love all kinds of stuff. Big spot in my heart for 60's and 70's MIJ stuff (cortez, hondo, ect...) At the moment I only have a handfull of vintage guitars, I love amps and have TONS of them.
morphball, thats a showman my head is on....I dont think we will be parting ways just yet. actually at this moment i want to throw away everything that isnt that. Nothing eles compairs (for surf) THE BEST fender tone ever is brownface!
