Indie band , world distribution?

What is the best way for us to distro our music world wide? I need to know.

Indie bands normally sign distribution deals with other labels to distribute world wide.

However, you/we are surf bands that, unfortunately, has little chance of being signed to an independent label so your best idea is probably to distribute it yourself. Press the records yourself, and then make contacts at stores worldwide to sell them your record. Also have a CDBaby storefront or just sell them on your website. Those are two simple ways to sell worldwide.

I have my album on CDBaby and with DWM I just have to find ways to get it heard. I've had some air play and have gotten some good reviews but I have only sold a couple of albums overseas. I guess I just need to keep trying to get my music out there. I'm new at the buisness end of all this.

Exactly! If they don't hear it then they won't buy it. You just need to e-mail a bunch of people overseas and try to get them to play your record. You'll probably have a very low success rate, but the music industry isn't easy for anybody.

It will probably be easier for you to sell more records in the US. Easier to communicate with those who will play your record, it is easier to find them, and easier for the consumer to find and buy your music. It isn't like you've sold to everybody in the US and now world domination is the goal. We do play surf music after all.

Due to the fact that I post at Surf Guitar 101 and have never heard of your band, I think you should focus on the surf community first. Post a thread or something else about your band. Draw the listeners in and make them want to listen.

Thanks Jake. I created the band website on note pad, I won't do that again. I need to get on myspace, I screwed up and signed up for a personal account instead of a musicians account and now I'm waiting for that to be cancelled so I can start over. This website is a great resource that I have never really tried to use.

Welcome aboard. Jake makes some good points, SG101 is a great way to meet the core instro surf fan community. There's lots of threads about trying to promote this music so make good use of our search function. And finally, writing "I need to know" is unnecessarily demanding and can be off-putting, just post your questions straightforwardly - and search the archives.

Wow Zak, you sound offended. As far as that cheesy review goes, I had no control over it, read Phil Dirts review next time. I'm sorry if you thought your opinion of my music would matter to me but it doesn't. I have an opinion of yours too, but I'll keep that to myself. Nothing in your winded post was even helpful except to hint at your character. Thanks though, you've been a big help.

As far as sounding angry, I am definately not I just never asked for your opinion of my music. I think it's great that you do have an opinion but we all have one. Have a good one.

I apologize to everyone who has read this thread, but the bottom line is I spent the better half of my life in south O.C. My first board was a Carl Hayward Thruster . I cracked my head open during a tropical storm that hit NewPort beach in the early eighties, my dad still laughs at what a crappy surfer I was (and I still suck on a surfboard) . I grew up listening to surf music. I love surf music. I crave it. The Ventures Rule. But to my very critical neighbor to the North (Zak) The Next time I'm in Montreal I hope you can show me what cover surf is all about.

You ask for advice, you get extremely good advice, you get your panties in a twist when you get extremely good advice, and then you claim that you're so Surf! Surf! Surf! that you bleed salt water. Because you're from the O.C. or something like that.

No need to apologize. That's comedy gold right there!

There is no reason to distribute if there's no demand. Keep your ego in check and read through Zaks post again. He just told you how to get world distribution. It's exactly the advice I would have given you, and exactly the critique I would have given.

Actually this thread has, in fact, been quite informative. I thought Zak gave some great advice (as did Jake). As someone who hasn't even been in a band for a year, hasn't toured or recorded or really promoted anything but, who knows, may one day aspire to do so, I really appreciated that advice. I guess once you think about it it's just pretty intuitive. Yeah Zak gave you his opinion too, which you didn't ask for, but don't dwell on it. And please, pleeease don't try to imply to us, of all people, that being a SoCal surfer is what makes a credible surf guitarist. God I resent that.
