I don't post very often but thought this would be of interest -- I visited the Get Hip Recordings warehouse and learned that they have the remaining unsold stock of the AVI reissue catalog. This includes the amazing Eddie & the Showmen comp and all 3 volumes of the Rare Surf series (Nocturnes, PJ & the Galazies, Johnny Fortune). I know a lot of folks were asking about these, particularly the Eddie & the Showmen comp. You can reach them through the website or email orders@gethip.com. For those who haven't heard much Eddie & the Showmen other than Squad Car, it's essential -- every bit as good as Dick Dale, Astronauts, Lively Ones. Very strong comp.

I wish people could hear the recordings of Eddie backed by The Eliminators from last year. Especially at the SG101 event. Even better than the 60'S. There is this vid I shot of them from Feb 2008.

That vid is great -- I hadn't seen it before. The main reason I posted about the comps is because there was a time a couple years ago when I knew a lot of people were looking for it after it had gone out of print. I spin that Eddie & the Showmen comp probably more than my best of Dick Dale cd. The song And the Angels Sing is one of the most intense surf songs ever and it never even saw the light of day til that cd reissue came out. Really terrific. The Rare Surf comps are also great -- Third Star to the Left and Space Probe by the Nocturnes are as great as surf music gets.
That label also put out amazing comps on Slim Harpo, Lazy Lester, and Wynn Stewart. All must haves. Hopefully some people who have been looking for the Eddie comp as well as the others will see this.

Eddie has brilliant some new stuff in the can. I think it is way better than his original stuff. Hopefully one day the world will hear it.

Oh man, I sure hope so! Eddie B. has provided me and my friends and family with so much enjoyment and happiness over the years. I play some Bel Airs and Showmen at every single party and barbecue I have ever had. He's just pure class. Seems like from that cool video that he's also a super nice gent. And he's still got skills galore!
Kudos to Eddie, and may good fortune and good feelings follow him wherever he goes.

I ordered a copy of this cd from Get Hip last week. I also found out, through correspondence with Calvin from Get Hip that they also have several volumes of the Stompin' comps in stock. They currently have volumes 7, 13, 14, 16, 26, 27 and 29 in stock at $14 each. This is a deal. I payed at least $20 for the first few volumes of this series several years ago. If you are a fan of R&B/Black Rock & Roll I recommend these.

I'm glad to hear you were able to track down more volumes of the Stompin' series. They have a ton of stuff. Walking through that warehouse is scary, really scary. I could easily drop $5K there. Gregg (Get Hip owner) also has a huge collection of records there. Not exaggerating, I would estimate there are probably about 1 million records in that warehouse. They're also really great people -- I'm grateful that my band the Ugly Beats is on that label.
