After a week of being a member in this forum, I am really enjoying it. All of the bands mentioned I seem to like pretty well, but most I have never heard of. My question for the brilliant minds at SG101 is:

What genre would you label my bands music as. We are marketed as surf acoustic, what do you think.

Any reviews will be appreciated greatly.

Hi Dan, would I be correct to say your model is similar to Jack Johnson's format of music? I'm not the expert here but I have been surfing all of my life and I think you play "surfer's music" and not "surf music". Labels suck so I am sure to be corrected.

I think that is probably right on. I don't typically like to be put in a genre box, but it would be interesting to see how people who enjoy surf music rate our style because it is so much different from most of what I have come across here.

She ask why I was listening to James Taylor.

Your band's music is good. But not even close to what I believe most here would call surf music.

However, you are still more than welcome here in my opinion! Besides, I think you will find that nearly everyone here also listens to and plays several different styles of music.
Check out Zak's' my-space. He is really out 180 from surf with his lonely guitar stuff. We have the Aquasonics from CO. that do the Rockabilly style on occasion.
We may play surf music by style, but don't think we are limited to it.

Hang around a while we might just convert you over...

I like the style of most everything I have heard and I love surf movies (the endless summer's, step into liquid, and sprout are among my favorites). I am very familiar with the style, just not the band names and such. My brother started out playing the elec. and we are working to put some back into our sets. It will help us be able to branch out a little with the addition of a bass player.

Hi David, I'd call it acoustic MOR (middle of (the)road) but I realize it somehow got tagged with surf or surfer's music with the whole Jack Johnson phenomenon. It's very well done, you're obviously talented.

As pointed out earlier it really is completely separate from what the members of this forum think of as surf. I doubt you'll find more than 3 or 4 threads that even mention an acoustic guitar. I'm curious if your concept of 'surf' music was first the acoustic style you play and then you discovered our type of instro surf?

Jake Johnson's style is, 'white man Reggie' style of music.

I'm not saying it's bad, in fact I kinda like it as a change, but it aint surf music as I know it.

I wouldn't call it surf music if they forced me to eat poi.

I hope this isn't an insult, it's not meant to be, but I heard some Jack Black in the vocals on "Madness".

Interestingly, of all the people I've told that I listen to surf music, only one has mentioned a band other than Dick Dale or Beach Boys, they said Jack Johnson is surf music. I never heard of him so I had to research who he is. For your style I would say Jack Johnsonesque.

I'll have to let me wife have a listen, I think she'd really like it.

No worries, I like the style. I wrote it for a movie that I had a chance to be in as a character piece, so equatting it with a movie star is pretty stellar. Thanks for listening and giving your honest opinion.
