Permalink tips for a new surf player who plays blues mostly

New Topic

Hey SurfHeads-

I too am a blues style player that playes surf as well- Let's look back at how many of the "First Wave" Songs are in a 1,4,5 progression (Wipeout to name one) The point is that Surf Guitar came out of the blues based Rock of the 50's and 60's...and it grew from there.

Surf, like Blues is a feel with its own set of primary techniques and attacks. No "Albert King" bends in Surf....

Listen to lots of "First Wavers" and get the feeling and phrasing absorbed into your fingers- Go over your major and Natural Minor scales...and by God learn to pick fast and clean-
