Permalink TAD Tubes VS RCA VS JJ

New Topic

A while back Kyle reccomended some TAD's for my showman.
I read a bunch of stuff and they looked cool. I have been running it with
RCA blackplates but dont want to burn em up in normal use so i looked for an alternitive.

RCA black Killer tone
JJ's Nice but not the nice round tone of RCA
and then.....

The TAD tall bottle....They rule! just as cool as RCA's The short bottle like kyle uses are supposed to be more spot on RCA like but i got the talls cuz supposed to have more headroom. My buddy pointed me at a place that sells em pretty cheap. I got a quad for $83 shipped. Great price on killer tubes!
There also cryo treated. Good deal. if your in search of a power tube i would def say give em a shot. worth the cash!
Thanks

Hmmm. I am leery of this cryotube business. Can somebody who has taken more physics than me explain why making tubes really cold before they are sold helps them?

SSIV

I've been happy with my TAD 6L6s. They're a good sounding and very reliable tube. I bought mine at Mojo

Here is the specks. I dont know if it really helps but who cares. They sound great!
Cryogenic treatment is a process where a product (VACUUM TUBES)is tempered in a deep freeze process(-300F) for 48 hrs. This process produces a permanent change in the metals inside this product making it stronger and longer lasting. Tools, instruments, knives, razor blades, machinery parts have been Cryo Treated for many years. Why do this to tubes?Tubes are mostly metal inside so Cryo treating tubes has the following benefits: permanent change in the metals at the molecular level(more uniform grain structure of metals), longer lasting, tightens internal parts of the tube allowing for more efficient operation. and superior conductivity!
SONIC IMPROVEMENTS FROM "CRYO TREATED" TUBES:

LOWER NOISE FLOOR,lower distortion, extended frequency response at the extremes, greately increased resolution and transparency. You will hear information from the recording you barely, or never heard before, especially at the back of the stage! Bass response is greatly improved, treble is sweeter but more extended. Cryo treated tubes just sound much better and more effortless than a non-treated tube!!!

No.

If you are paying a premium price for these tubes (which may be great to start with, mind you) then you are wasting money you could otherwise spend on beer...or medium format black and white film stock or tires or mustard or something. Don't make me tell you what to buy with that extra cash.

Edit: well, it looks like the price is fair. That cryo BS is total hokum, though. Back under my rock.

SSIV

There cheaper than MOJO.
$83 shipped for a quad, cant beat it.
I dont know if the cryo stuff is garbage, or what. it kinda makes sence and alot of guys are all about it.
dont knock it till ya tried it.

You would be astonished at what a fresh set of good tubes can do for the amp.
