I like it because it the files I have downloaded so far are better attempts than, say, just looking at tab from all those tab sites. Lots of obscure songs out there too, especially surf stuff. Also they have backing tracks so you can turn down the part you want to play along with them. The tab can be printed and its easy to read. I've been playing along to Hawaii 5-0 from GP-5 for a while. Somehoe the trial version isn't timimg out after 15 days.

Now If I can just get it together to pay the $30 for the program, I can get more out of it.

i was thinking about using for all the tunes i've tabbed. i need to organize what i've got scribbled on scraps of paper, etc.

is the program user friendly for those of us 'computer challenged'?

Go for it Carol. I use the crap out of it, and I love it. I find it pretty user friendly. If you are trying to get things organized, that's a great way to do it.

It's a nice program, well suited for organizing your music.

You can create lead, rhythm and other tracks to test how songs sound that you might be working on. I also find it useful in converting vocals to lead guitar.

You can export the files in PDF form (all of my tablature download submissions on this site were exported PDF's from Guitar Pro, so you can see what the output looks like).

I bought the Guitar Pro program a year or so ago, and at first I didn't feel I had gotten my monies worth.
But after a few months of using it I now love it.
I have guitar Pro version-five point something.

I use Guitar Pro for printing lessons for my students, and I use it for composing, and I use it for trying to figure out other songs. It does a great job on midi, but I do wish it would transcribe mp3.
The downloads I have gotten off the INTERNET very from excellent to pure trash. But even trash has some value.
I give it a 4.5 outta 5

I have version 4 which I got bundled with something...very easy to use and writes by clicking on the fretboard or in music notation...even a visual keyboard if you like. Plays back midi at any speed and will play multiple midi tracks.

It is not really a performing tool but works as a midi sequencer...to transfer to MP3 you could get audacity (free) and transfer over to that and with the converter it can be saved to wav or MP3 format. However, I don't know anything that will transcribe from MP3 or other audio formats.

As I mentioned in the previous thread, the most amazing thing I have found uses for it is to upload standard midi tracks into it. So...you can get any number of free (often cheezy mind you) midi tracks of just about anything online...load it into guitar pro or just the tracks of interest...guitar pro will attempt to tab and notate what ever the midi file says and play it.

This means you can get melodies or piano parts, etc and make your own arrangements for guitar if you choose.

It's very intuitive and easy to use and by far the best program of it's type that I have come across. As a learning tool, even for standard notation, it is fabulous. It's great for composing as well as you can write directly to guitar pro and different parts as well like bass or even other parts.

I had fun recently with some classical guitar things I had worked on...once tabbed out, i couldn't resist replacing the guitar sound with a string ensemble patch and have the piece played by an orchestra...hahaha...even things like this can be instructive as well as a bit of fun, you can see if a guitar part really holds up if it were played on another instrument sometimes.

Being able to quickly transcribe midi files of other instruments can sometimes inspire some great ideas, outside of the usual guitar patterns that we all fall into. You can transpose the tracks into more guitar friendly keys and edit out things to get to the essence of the parts...I always liked the piano part of "benny and the jets" for instance.
