You may want to learn the mentioned songs for your own educational purposes, but seriously ask yourself if anyone actually wants to see a band with a setlist like that.
Because that would be exactly like watching a bar band do a cover of "Mustang Sally" or something.
No-one ever lost money by underestimating the sophistication of their audience. One of the bands I play in is a function/club/bar band and I'd say that at least 40% of the requests we get are for Mustang Sally or Sweet Home Alabama. If we do Surf numbers in that band it's usually Miserlou or Surf Rider and people like them because of the Pulp Fiction connection.
Even with our Surf band,The Pashuns, (which is mostly original material) we can play any of those covers that you suggest would be too standard - and about 80% of the audience won't know them at all. Perhaps that's because we don't attempt to attract a 'Surf' audience, but rather take Surf to Rock audiences - or maybe it's a UK thing ...

If i was ever lucky enough to see the Treblemakers live then i'd be pretty disspointed if they played old standards. I would have thought a young surf band trying their nuts off with old standards would be sort of endearing. I agree with estreet about the Pulp Fiction thing, it's like saying, those songs are surf music.. there-is-more-where-they-came-from-listen-here. Except: Margaya

I think there is a reason every bar band plays Mustang Sally... most folks like hearing it

I find it depends on the alcohol quotient of the gig. The more alcohol there is, the more I'm apt to do any requests ':wink:', and I mean anything(as long as we know it).

Riiiiiiight, we all know that the majority are who we turn to when seeking the most highly cultivated musical tastes.
This isn't Mozart, it's Rock N' Roll.
I've never seen a band play Mustang Sally, where the audience didn't get into it.

By that token, I stronly urge you to add Smoke On The Water, Hotel California, Stairway To Heaven, and Sweet Home Alabama to your set list. Sure to be a big hit with the office dweller happy hour crowd, and you can easily find the tab for 'em online.
