Terrortones recording their first stuff..

The father of our drummer has got a mobile studio and only records his own stuff. I don'T expect very much... Anyway , my drummer thinks that it's not good to put a microphone in front of the amp and anotherone in the room a a roommicro the get a good sound - i want to do it in that way - He think it is better to record the guitar over the line in on the mixing desk or to use the input in the amp and the line out (or headphones) for recording... well he's very convinced that this is that best way... i don't think so... I think your idea of using a close mic in combination with a room mic to capture ambient sound is the best way to go. Recording "direct" as is being suggested is a great way to get flat, sterile tones. It can work for secondary parts or overdubs that are not prominent, but if there is any way to avoid that approach for the lead guitar, do not record direct. The speaker and the air in the room are an integral part of the guitar tone you hear, eliminating these two factors only serves to further remove it from reality. thanks for the advice.... i hope he will accept my method as the best one... btw: I sold the Super reverb for 700Euros (bought 450) , it was a good deal ;) — Band: http://www.myspace.com/theterrortones Top
