Permalink Help me understand ghastly ones guitar solo's

New Topic

For some reason i find the ghastly ones guitar solo's very counter intuitive and i know there's probably not much anyone can do to help me but i thought id try anyway. I can learn most of their songs pretty easily but when i hear one of there solo's my brain turns inside out and i simply cannot comprehend. I guess im hoping someone might have a video i could study where you can see the guitarists hands during a solo. So far i have found the first note of the solo for haulin hearse and maybe the next 2 but i usually get lost at the bends. Im not really trying to learn the solo's exactly but more trying to get a clue.

Sounds like he's workin' alot of the blues scale on top of a Am, Em, G, Am progression.
Try fiddlin' around the blues box scale at the 5th fret, then it sounds like he's havin' a little more fun at the 15th and 17th fret at the end of the solo.
I need my guitar in front of me to verify.
Here's a vid.
