Permalink Surf Rockers Needed for March 12 Party in NYC

Hi All,

The music makes the scene, especially when the water is still chilly!

The LIC Community Boathouse (http://www.licboathouse.org) is a free, all-volunteer boathouse that provides kayaking and canoeing on the East River and Newtown Creek for recreation and education. We're sorely in need of an awesome surf rock band to play our March 12 Paddle Party at The Foundry (http://www.thefoundry.info).

We were blessed with the Sea Devils one year, but scheduling won't allow them to donate their time for our 2009 party. We'd be grateful if one of their rocking and caring fellow bands could step in. We can offer promotions and a free special paddle tour for the band and their friends (up to 12 people).

We're expecting a larger crowd than ever (planning to meet The Foundry's 200-person fire limit), and a more active summer than ever. This reflects our continued success, of course, but also the need for free and healthy experiences for young people, families, and increasingly, for our elders. Our Friday Night Chill Paddles are a neighborhood institution now, taking a place alongside PS1 Warm Up Parties and films at Socrates Sculpture Park in making LIC a cool destination. Sunday Walk-up Paddles at Hallets Cove are a weekly stable for growing families, and our Saturday Adventures open the entire harbor as no other boathouse does. Water Weekdays are special programs for youth and elder groups and schools, to provide much needed enrichment.

All of these things are provided for free by LIC Community Boathouse volunteers.

If you could play, or kindly refer us to a great band who'd enjoy this, we'd be very grateful.

Warm regards,

Erik (licboathouse@gmail.com)
