So, I'm sure this topic has been broached here before, but it seems like it's time for an update...
How many out there are contemplating touring during 2009? How will you manage your touring in the face of the current economic climate? Please share your insights and comments...

I was wondering about this also. Is the Surf Convention now the primary destination for the bands that travel/tour?

I am doing the sg101 convention at a bigger venue this year,
and there will be at least 4 outta state or country bands there.
so I hope a lot of you can scrape a few dollars together to come out to Ca. for the weekend.

I'm planning on a mini-tour this summer. As far as managing the tour in light of the current economic climate, we won't be playing San Diego during the week

will you be traveling out-of-state? ...out-of-region?
are you sleeping in the van, or will you have other accommodations?
how about fuel/food costs?

Yes, Nevada/California

Will rent hotels when needed. Hopefully stay with people.

We will do the best that we can to cover costs. But realistically, we can only manage a tour on a small scale due to the costs involved. Our goal is to get out there and play. If we can cover some costs through merch/proceeds then great. If we can do well, then we'll be in a better position to guarantee more money the next time around. We'll probably make two surgical strikes over two friday-Sunday weekends and not do one full week filled with mon-thurs to contend with. All still very much up in the air.

back in the 1980s, our "tour budget" was something like $10 a day for food...and sleeping wherever...most money went into gasoline to get from here to there...
now it seems like there would be costs of around $30 per day for food...
