I came across this 1970s skateboard safety movie and it has some cool surf at the beginning:

Yeah, cool video. Too bad it got cut short. It looked like one of the riders was wearing a baseball/batters helmet in one shot.
I skateboarded in the 70's. Anyone remember Super Surfer's? Plastic decks, different wheel combinations depending on the color of the deck.
My first was the light blue one with clay wheels. The cheapest. With clay wheels any porous asphalt surface would vibrate heavily up into the feet so badly that they would become numb and fuzzy. Not to mention that hitting even the slightest pebble would cause massive deceleration, throwing you to the ground. After a while the wheels wore down and got all pitted.
Eventually I upgraded to the green model. Urethane wheels. The tail wheels were wider than the nose set, like a dragster. I still have a red plexiglass deck somewhere. I think it's a GT.

My first skateboard was a Black Knight c. 1965.
I lost a lot of skin on that baby!
(Scroll down about halfway).

Anybody remember those?
Then we upgraded to these laminated Hobie's with white wheels.

I don't know about '65, but the O.P. shorts I wore in the 70's were hella fricken' short. Just long enough to cover my sack. I wore boxers underneath and they'd be longer than the shorts. Lots of exposed skin. Except for the tube socks pulled way up.

Yeah! My first board was a hand me down Duraflex with cadillac wheels - graduated to a Hobie Fiberglass with Bennett Trucks, and the rest is history.....I went professional in the 80s eventually hanging it up to race Mountain Bikes. Now I spend time teaching my daughter how to do all the old school tricks.

My first was a Makaha..latest is a custom made longboard of bamboo from Hawaii...I may have to stick to sponging...the concrete does not forgive much and it's taking longer to heal

Cool a GT, my first board was a black GT toothpick with ball bearing wheels.
Next I had a couple of Hobie Skateparkriders, then a Hobie Competition (fibreglass), then a Dogtown PC tailtap. I think there were a couple more in there.
Now I've got a Sk8Kings Jester freestyle deck that I bought after a 25 year absence from skating. I don't use it much, but this summer I'm going to be teaching my son to skate. I think mostly I'll be trying to stay out of the hospital.
The following URL is to WinnipegSkateparks.com where I've got a couple of mentions and some pics in the history section - sheesh I just realized I'm history! (I"m about 3/4 of the way down, Richard Derksen)

Wow, this brings back alot of memories. My first was a wood Surfer with the steel wheels back ca 66 or 67. Those wheels were great for shooting the streets/sidewalks where we lived in San Diego (Baypark)....NOT.
From there, I moved up and on to more G&S Fibreflex boards than I can possibly remember. Usually Tracker or Bennett pro trucks, with either #4 or #6 Road Riders. I wish I still had one of em, I have a Sector 9 longboard (squaretail) now.

Black Knights ruled! They sold 'em at the local Thrifty's, and I must've bought a dozen or so from '69-'72 (those clay wheels burned up pretty quick). I think they sold for about $12, and with my allowance and a few recycled soda bottles I was good to go.

I skated in mid 80s. I had a Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall board with Goldwings and OJs. Loved that board.

Yeah that's me - OP shorts and tube socks were the standard uniform!

Fast Facts:
You're probably talking about the vert board, but have you seen Per skate Freestyle? I believe he is the only guy to ever have beaten Rodney Mullen in a Freestyle contest.

My first board was a 1980's Capital board. I do not remember any of the details. But it had an awesomely 80's Devil face on it. Very corny, but it was my first board.

Oh sure, I sustained many cuts and bruises trying to do that crap myself... there's a nice collection of Bones Brigade videos on youtube if you get nostalgic. My neighbor, who did a pretty convincing freestyle, used to have an Alva he'd loan me on occasion, and I actually liked it better than the clunky vert boards of the 80's. Too bad there was no ebay back then.
