Favorite song, "Spanish Kiss", but it's acoustic.
so if you mean electric I'd have to say "A Run for Life"
"Miserlou Twist", or "Banzai Washout" But that's a hard one to pick.

Agree

"Miserlou Twist" is a great one! Love all those strings and things!

Yeah I know it said no Miserlou, but not many people know about that one.

Honestly,
Much as I hate to admit it, I have a soft spot for Mr. Peppermint Man.

A toss up between "A Run For Life" and "The Victor".
About "Hava Nagila" - Dick Dale only plays 2/3 of the song, and unfortuantely almost every surf band, instead of actually covering the original, covers his cover...neglecting to play what I call "the Mosh part".
Check out Meshugga Beach Party to hear the whole song.

Ran, good point! I forgot about that, I actually haven't listened to a surf version of the song in quite a while but I remember missing something when I first heard DD's version. Hava Nagila is taught in most elementary schools in the nethrelands, my wife actually remembered all the lyrics and we figured it out from there. Our memory, I admit, was slightly different from MBP's version.
Could you explain 'mosh'? I rember the lyrics there being something like "uru uru akim" (sp.???????????)

Off Topic
Yeah, I meant the "uru achim" (wake up brothers) part...Mosh=Slam dancing.
If you play the song fast, that part demands a fast "polka style" drum beat, the kind used in many hardcore-punk songs. That's the way I always played it (and most klezmer bands play that beat, slower of course, on most of their songs, including this one).

Not only is he the king of the surf guitar he is the reason we have reverb and high wattage amps. Theres a good article in the yearly fender mag that tells how he worked with Leo developing reverb and high watt 60-100 amps. Apparenltly he was blowing up amps everynight.

Hmmm, I would have to say my favorite song by DD would have to be "The Star Of David", but Summer Surf is right up there for me too.

...and "pipeline" with stevie ray vaughn if pretty amzing stuff...makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

all the best
adam
