I really like this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYJvoDJCW0A I've never heard of this dude, but oddly enough his name is familiar. I decided to look for this song after hearing The Born Loser's version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwIY5rOE01U&feature=related (BTW this is a great example of a non surf song turned into a Surf tune) Does any one know of any good releases by this guy?

I think he had a hit with Runaway. edit: looks like he took his own life. from wikipedia: He flew to New York City, but his first sessions did not produce results. McLaughlin persuaded Shannon and Crook to rewrite and re-record one of their earlier songs, originally called "Little Runaway", using the Musitron as lead instrument. On January 21, 1961, they recorded "Runaway", released as a single in February 1961. It climbed reached #1 in the Billboard chart in April. Shannon followed with "Hats Off to Larry", which peaked at #5 (Billboard) and #1 on Cashbox in 1961, and the less popular "So Long, Baby," another song of breakup bitterness. "Runaway" and "Hats Off to Larry" were recorded in a day. "Little Town Flirt", in 1962 (with Bob Babbitt), also reached #12 in 1963, as did the album of the same name. After these hits, Shannon was unable to keep his momentum in the U.S., but continued his success in England, where he had always been more popular. In 1963, he became the first American to record a cover version of a Beatles song. "From Me to You" charted in the US before the Beatles. —Plus! He fought his way out of a strangle deal with a record producer early on. To me Del Shannon is a monument of RocknRoll. Looking through several YouTube videos of this guy It seems that I'm a little more familiar with his music than I first thought. I've heard a bunch of those songs before, I just didn't know it was all from the same guy. He's got some good tunes. — |

His posthumously released "comeback" record, "Rock On" is an exceptionally good pop-rock disc. He worked with Jeff Lynne and was supposedly in talks to replace the recently deceased Roy Orbison in the Traveling Wilburys. It's a shame he chose to end his life when he seemed to be on the verge of an exciting new chapter in his career. —Bill S._______ |

). the station had the top 5 at 5PM everyday based on listeners voting in the half hour following up to it. three of us voted so many times that we rocketed it to #1 one day, and only one day. i too really like this song.
