That first vid looked liked the Surf Coasters, minus the drummer (unless he lost a ton of weight). Maybe it's from the TV show that got them their initial "fame"? Ferenc? —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Anybody recognize the song in the first video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oZhWPFghV8 It's a rarity... maybe one of the rarest? Let's see who can name that tune or does it have a name? — |

Remember the line up of the Surf Costers has changed many times over 20 plus cds and 10 plus years. —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

Sounds like "Bullseye". I don't know who did it originally but I have it by (Ventures drummer) Mel Taylor & The Magics on their 1966 album In Action. — |

the characters spell out "BuRuZ(u) Ai" in katakana, which is the alphabet you use when you want to replicate english. Blues Eye? From the parts I can understand the comments just have the song title and something like "it's amazing!" or "by the Ventures!" edit: ah Klas is probably right —Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio Last edited: Nov 22, 2008 13:06:30 |

I think the Deoras covered Bullseye too. Jeff(bigtikidude) |

Yes, thank you. This is filling in a big gaping hole for me. It is most likely "Bullseye" and being credited to DHamilton who wrote material for the Ventures, hence later recorded by Taylor. ( It is very similar to "unknown" by the Vy-Dels but I suspect they copied this without knowing where it came from. ) I recognized the song from a rare recording I once heard and knew it was somehow associated with the Ventures (written) but not that it was ever titled, performed or released otherwise. — |

Part of it sounds like the Ventures, "Escape". — |

Yeah it is weird, like half of it is Escape, with another part thrown in. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Looks like an all star show, is that Enocky from Jackie & the Cedrics (one with glasses) and maybe Rock'n Jelly Bean on Bass maybe? |

FWIW, the Surf Coasters recorded "Bullseye" on Surf Attack and I'm 99% sure it was credited to Danny Hamilton, who also wrote "Escape." The other part sounds like it was lifted almost directly from "Penetration" (or "Comin' Home Baby"). The drummer in the first one kinda looks like Bingo from the El Caminos. Or maybe it's just the hair. -Warren —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

The drummer in the SCs vid is Miyake who was in the band before Naotaka Seki. He is now a farmer, but he came to the SCs 10th anniversary show in 2004. He had gained a bit of weight, but was still a great drummer. The song is (as pointed out above) "Bullseye". The band in the second vid is the Dr. K Project. Dr. K is a journalist who does music product gear reviews- for both guitarists and home recording equipment- and he also writes guitar tablature, for Japanese mags. We played with them in Yokohama (the same band seen in this vid). Here is my blog about that night. I haven't heard of Kenji Omura or Shigeru Suzuki (the guest guitarists in the 3rd & 4th vids) but I'll bet they've been around awhile. Looks like Omura died a few years ago. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |
