thanks Danny!
It sounds great! Really a great machine. Also, nice song!
Nice songs at myspace, too. These are also with flesh and blood drumming ,right? ...........I did a req, too!
I think I'll buy this little drummer for my demos. I'm playing for a few days now with Acoustica Beatcraft (downloaded by net) and I realized that it's very nice for practice and making songs at home. But it sounded as crap! SR16 is really great!

I used the SR-16 on "No Can Tells" on the SG101 '06 surf comp as well as "Only The Young" in the demo's downloads here. I agree with Danny....program your own beats and teach yourself something about drumming dynamics and you'll be able to relate to your future drummers much better and understand them much better. Yeah i know....some drummers don't want to be understood!!!

Seriously guys, don't you know that everytime someone utters the phrase "drum machine" a drummer somewhere drops dead? Now clap you hands everyone! Clap your hands!!

My low-budget drum machine is the user with the SN LRDrummer. He seldom shorts out, keeps the beat steady, and requires only a few cans of beer every practice to keep running.

yes but you dont have to barter with the drum machine to get him to go out to play a gig/tour.
not that you did, but you get my drift.

No, you are confusing low-grade with low-budget.
Question, where might we find the little thing on Slingerland drums that digs into the floor that goes on the front of the bass drum? We just bought a 60s Ludwig Gold Sparkle Kit and we don't want it to move around.

It's a shame you're not in San Francisco. There's a great drum shop here called Sam Adato's and I'm sure he'd have it. Maybe I can pick one up and bring it your way when the Lava Rats head north next month.

I have been looking for this old drum machine for awile and I finally got one. Its made in Italy by Siel. Check out the cool beats which can be changed by a footswitch.

Well the footswitch stops/starts and changes the verse.

I saw a band once (might have been The Langley Beach Crowd?) that had a medium-smallish dog that would spend most of the show curled up in the bass drum, which must have helped to anchor it. It was already deaf from a birth defect or some such, so no harm done.
Here's my low-budget drum machine:
(Mine's actuially more antique, with an all-beige case)

No batteries required, and very portable. Not so good for dealing with different time signatures.
It's a bit more fun to play along with some of the 99 canned rhythms in my Yamaha Portasound synth, something like this one:
None of them are particularly surfy, but a few of the generic Rock ones work well enough for a quick-and dirty recording to help me remember something I came up with in the middle of the night.
It's got MIDI in/out, so some day I might take the trouble to sequence it for a Lo-Fi recording. That would involve learning about and paying attention to drums. Oh dear.
— I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Got a Zoom Rhythm Track a while back - I have an old translucent blue cased model. It does surprisingly well, having used it on several demos and projects over the years. Pads are a little small for live playing, which is how I used the device mainly.

If you're wanting surf drums sounds for live gigs, then a drum machine or real drummer is certainly needed.
But if you're doing home recording, pre-recorded drum loops are the way to go for sure:

I have an Alesis SR-16. It is a good machine and popular, but honestly I've barely used it since I got it and am thinking of selling it. PM me if any of you out there are interested in a purchase.
As someone suggested, drum loops are an excellent choice for some automated drum sounds & grooves.
