Man you gotta love him. I'm glad there's people like him, The Ventures, The Chantays, The Surfaris, and all you guys. Keep Surf alive!

I also like to think that all early 60's fender equipment is happy to be playing surf music again. After all, its the music it was meant to play.

They also turn up on the Hollywood Surfers' "Surf Family" LP, which - DD vocals aside - is really good.

There's a thread about that one here:

The Hollywood Surfers were actually The Rhythm Crusaders from Huntington Beach Ca. We met a guy Named Dick Hug {aka Huggy Boy} an L.A. disc jocky. He had a few Dick Dale cuts that he owned and decided to capitalize on Dicks name with the album. We went into gold star studios almost cold turkey and cut most of the tracks by just jamming in in the key of whatever. We were just paid for the session and got no credit for anything although we wrote all the music. Almost all of the tracks were written on the spot and recorded at the same time.. I had no idea the album had reached any kind of cult status. I still have my promotional copy that has hardly been played. I'll have to get the sucker out and see if its gotten any better with age. We were not a surf band even though we played some to keep the stompers happy at gigs. We thought the album was just a goof and had no expections of it ever going anywhere.
