Growing up I always thought there was a surf/country connection because of the song structure and use of the guitar as a melody hook.

Am I wrong or just a country guy at heart?

I always dug the bass VI tone, especially on Glen Cambels stuff. Whicita Linemen has been one I have wanted to cover for years...especially with the Cads.

And for a mere $9 or so, you have little to loose.

Where do you find CDs for $9?

My guess is that the snappy sounding bass parts on those records were played by Ray Pohlman on a Danelectro bass. His work was pretty prolific during that time period. Phil Spector and Brian Wilson used Ray on a lot of sessions.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Yeeee Haaawwww!

Country and Surf go well together, in my opinion. The best example is probably Dick Dale's cover of Ghost Riders in the Sky.

Any other examples out there?

Lots of "surfy" versions of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". Surf and Spaghetti Westerns were made for each other.

When this thread started, I just ordered the CD from Amazon. It was only $9 at the time. I think it happened to be the first week it was released. Looks like it's at $11 now. Still, $11 isn't bad.

Junior Brown does a nice job of combining the two. But that's pretty obvious and he only has one "surf medley" that I'm aware of. But his particular version of country twang does go very well with surf. Saw him live once. 'Twas excellent.

I love Classic country (George Jones, Buck Owens, Lefty Frizzell, Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, etc.) As far as a surf/country connection, I'm sure a ton of the first wavers were influenced by the country greats.

Jeff, a cads cover of Wichita Linemen would be so rad!!
