For me it usually depends on the characteristics of the guitar I'm using. General rule: humbuckers=bright on single coils =bright off.

As I often jump the channel together I tend to have the in-between setting of one on / one off. —The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy. |

Well said. Bravo! FWIW, a brighter preamp tube (ala Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH) will give you lotsa highs by itself (compared to say a JJ 12AX7). JJ's are fairly well-know for their smoother yet slightly less trebly sound-more vintage if you will IMO. — |

I hope I never said anything to make you seem wrong on anything. If I did, apologies. Thanks for passing the word along... As far as how I'm doing, I'm in full production of the Surfers at the moment. G-Springs will follow then the Sonidos. The Makaha and Hale'iwa will be released sometime in the summer I suspect. The Canyon Reverb is on indefinite hold. After some time I will no longer be building brownface clones unless custom ordered. However, that time is like in the distant future so don't panic. Lotsa "me-too" people trying to establish their brand in the amp-world making clones similar to mine and turning a profit will be harder. I'm not into guerrilla marketing to sell stuff and I don't work for free. At least In-N-Out burger has decent pay and .....fringe benefits I build my amps with so much attention to detail, building a solid product with a 5-year warranty and providing superior customer support (obviously I wear many hats) that it's hard to compete with other builders that go straight for the bottom line. I'm not interested in doing that. Either do it right or not. There is no try-as Yoda would say. Wise man was he. Dman. —Last edited: Dec 21, 2008 14:28:59 |

Not at all. I'm just truly humbled that my explanation actually was good. You know these amps inside and out and I'm just a schmoe that has had a Pro Jr basket case on his dining room table for 13 months. A bravo from you gives me courage to carry on. I'm dead serious about spreading the word. If I can muster the price I would love to have one and I think that a lot of the people that appreciate the great sounds of Surf guitar (and other clean genres) should beat a path to your door. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

Thanks for the support. Much obliged. I need it-especially with this economy.

Yeah, no kidding. The strange thing is how unbalanced it all seems to be. Some sectors seem to be prospering and others . . . well they're not so hot. I went out to Olive Garden Friday and 3 minutes after they opend (11 AM) there was a waiting list. I sent my buddy in ahead of me to get on the list and I could barely find a parking space. By the time we finished the place was so crowded that it was almost impossible to get out of the parking lot. What's that all about? People should be spending more money on durable goods. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

I think you'll find that there's a phased denial process with the US economy. "Yeah things are getting bad, let's go to Olive Garden instead of Chez Panisse", Then it'll be In'n'Out burger (no step down for me Danny Snyder I am now playing trumpet with Prince Buster tribute band 'Balzac' Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

Some background, I used to work for a real-estate agent back then (horrible economy for them especially) for $6 an hour doing odd jobs on fixer-uppers around town. One night I was stuccoing a house by myself and he left, never returned, leaving my butt in Corona with no pay, in the rain and no way to get home. I was living in Wildomar-outside of Lake Elsinore at the time. It's like a half hour away. I never saw the guy again (no one did at the real estate office) but he will rue the day I do. That was just wrong for him to do that. BTW, I did a pretty good stucco job on that house I don't mind saying myself. — |

Hey Dario, how would a Surfer do as an amplifier for a Bass VI????? Would a 15" tone-ring speaker and cab hold up to low thumping sounds. BTW, I can relate to the Ramen deal. In '81 things were none too good for the economy and I lived on Ramen, turkey hot dogs and orange juice. When I got back to working steady I was able to rebalance things by adding pizza to my diet. IMO, Synchro put an end to all questions and now the thread has gone tangential. Synchro go to the thread on the Surfer and repost. I will answer there. Dman — |

Just to confuse it more. I always use the bright on my silverface bandmaster, but always have it off on the blackface bassman; played through the same cab. |
