Permalink Surprising surf cover tunes

New Topic

I just acquired a live recording of Frank Black, from some time in 1993. Track 2 was listed as "instrumental", and I was really surprised when it turned out to be "War of the Satellites".

What other unexpected cover tunes have people run in to?

Steve

I saw Frank Black around that time, he opened with Los Straitjackets's Nightmare in Monte Cristo, he had the biggest smile on his face during the whole song which was also the only one he didn't sing.

Frank Black is a huge surf music fan. The B-side of his cover single of "Hang on To Your Ego" is a song called "Surf Epic."

One of the Pixies albums opened with a surf cover; can't remember what it was called.

He's alright, that Frank Black.
