My first band - The Nameless - we couldn't think of a name and that sounded sort of mysterious. Our big showstopper (ha ha - we sucked) was going from The Who's Can't Explain right into Just Like Me by Paul Revere and the Raiders so the last chord of the first song was the first chord of the second song. We amazed ourselves (but no one in the audience) with that one.

Reminds me of one of my first bands - Special Guests - we couldn't think of a name either, so the flyers read "So-so and Special Guests." And your last statement is something I can totally relate to. I had a good chuckle over that. Laughing

I've got a rhetorical question for this thread:
Is there a band that Cap'n Geech and The Shrimp Shack Shooters is actually based on? or is it just a take off on all the musical guests of the endless stream of Beach-theme movies of the era?

I'm sure it was just a bit of satire based upon the very thin veneer of reality that pervaded the world of the beach movie.

I didn't realize it, but there is discussion here on the Beat Gear Cavern regarding props used during That Thing You Do...

If not a member of the board, you may have to join to view the thread, but for the diehard TTYD junkie it might be worth it...just get past the discussion of Ringo's "wrong" drum set, and the discussion evolves...

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most...

Downloaded the whole uncut version of this.. 2:27 long.. and im suprised at how much more stuff is in it.. i LOVE the extra scenes with charlize in the 60's clothes:)

P.S. and now i understand "i am sparticus!"

P.P.S. just noticed.. the amp they use in the fist practice in the garage... same GD silvertone POS that was my first ever amp... think i paid $75 for the head/cab... HOOORRRRIBLE..... bad memories... eck...

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

This is a feel-good movie that can be watched over and over without ever getting tired of it. Those are the kind of DVDs I actually BUY Wink Every time you watch it, you'll pick up another nuance... Hanks/Goetzman really did a great job on this flick!

BW Dave

Wow. Watching this right now, for the first time as an unedited pay cable movie. I've missed a lot!!!!! (usually see it on regular tv) They chop it to bits!!!!

Think if I ever start a band, I'll name it the Shrimp Shack Shooters.

I was stoked when I got the expanded, director's cut DVD for Christmas. The scenes cut from the theatrical release really add a lot to this movie. I just watched it again, and never get tired of it. I haven't yet watched the bonus disc.

The "substitute" bass player Wolfman (name?) in the TTYD movie actually has a Learn to play Bass Guitar video out that I know I've watched at one time in the past. Since it's no longer nearby, I must have passed it on or gotten rid of it.

The bass player who played Scott "Wolfman" Pell is Larry Antonino.

I haven't seen this version of "That Thing You Do" mentioned in this thread?

Old news? I just stumbled on it on Youtube and "wondered" which came first?

I'm pretty sure that the Knack was covering the song from the movie, not the other way around.

In response to the original inquiry.....(ie: the soundtrack)

I have TWO copies of the soundtrack CD.

I have the VHS and the DVD copies of the movie and probably another VHS that I taped off the TV before I snagged it at the store.

I think this is among the greatest films of the last 25 years.

I WANT Rita Wilson...(but only in her film costume as Margarite)
nong nong nong Razz

yes, I know she's married to Hanks, but as a bigtime Hollywood liberal, he shouldn't mind if I balonga her for a few hours. Very Happy

That just got weirder and weirder with every sentence.

You should rent, buy or if you have Comcast "HD on Demand" the directors cut is available 24/7 it's sweet they have added an extra 40 minutes to the movie very cool!

Hold her back, Boys.... I'm on my way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my favorite movie. Skitch drunk outside the hotel is hilarious.

Just watched this last night.

What a great movie! I have to see the directors cut now.

Oh man the scene where you see them with new gear!

I want those amps!!! Twisted Evil
