Our band the surftaliban will rename itself shortly to the Terrortones, because we have had problems with getting new gigs and with booking. The taliban is a group of radical islamics and many people don't seem to get on with this name. In our band there have also been arguments because of this.
So soon we will be called the Terrortones
I hope you understand the reason and can live with that
the new link will be www.myspace.com/theterrortones
i will inform you after the URL change

I liked surf taliban
but I can see how some people would be freaked out by it.

Hate to say I told ya so but I did. Due to the current state of affairs in the world, people do not seem to have much of a sense of humor on things like this even though I realize the name of your band was purely for entertainment purposes and has absolutely nothing to do with an oppressive society/terrorist organization.. Just so people don't think I'm picking on the real Taliban, I don't think names like the Surf Nazis or Surf KKK will fly either. It's just the way the world is. Best of luck with he new band name.

I thought Surftaliban was a brilliant name. People are too ***damn conservative, and not in a good way. (I'm a self-proclaimed conservative myself, but in the Frank Zappa vein.)

And there I was thinking that politics was strictly forbidden here. It's getting like Cowabunga in the old days .

Where were the politics in this thread? Save for Mournblade saying he is a conservative, which one should be allowed to say.
The Taliban should have nothing to do with politics, they are a despotic group that has seriously impaired the freedom and quality of life of many citizens in Afghanistan. Topics like that, while they should be stuck in the shallow end, should never be taboo on this board. However, domestic politics may be drug into the conversation easily, but that is where we must take it into our own hands to police our own words.

The band made their announcement and there isn't anything more to say on this matter.
Thank you.
