Here's Jet Harris, the original bass player of the Shadows, playing Diamonds
Lots of that great low guitar sound on the Best of Jet Harris and Tony Meehan CD which has mostly instros but also some pretty good vocals. Highly recommended and inexpensive at £4.97:

Since Klas' recommendationa never fail to please I got this one - it's awesome. Also been a long time since I heard a vocal that I liked so much, short clip here http://www.mp3.de/musik/genre/band/110000/278380/1
If you like the kind of low 'n slow melodies form diamonds, and the kind of vocals in that clip, I highly recommend getting this cd.
Also upon hearing this I realize that the singer form a local sixties-inspired band from the eighties, "the miners of muzo", got 99% of his inspiration fro Jet Harris.

Yeah, it's really good I think. Prior to buying it, I had only heard "Diamonds" and hoped for that most of the CD would be on a similar level. I wasn't disappointed. Initially I thought Harris played a baritone guitar but then Ivan mentioned it was a tune-downed Jaguar.

Klas, you probably already know this, but just to make sure: Jet actually did play the Bass VI on tracks like Besame Mucho, Main Title Theme (Man With the Golden Arm), Man From Nowhere and a few others - basically all of his instrumental solo tracks. Once he hooked up with Tony Meehan for their string of hits, Jet switched to playing lead on a normal Jaguar, with an E string tuned down to D. He also plays a regular guitar on Scarlet O'Hara and of course Applejack.
I should mention that the studio guitarist Joe Moretti has claimed that he actually played lead on Scarlett O'Hara in the studio, as Jet was too 'incapacitated' (i.e. drunk) to do it himself. I believe that, as it really doesn't sound like Jet. Moretti also played the lead (officially this time) Tony Meehan's one single, Song Of Mexico/Kings Go Fifth.
BTW, Wannes Tony was the singer on some of those tracks, I believe, not just Jet.

Oh, one more thing, Klas. The Fender Bass VI, which of course is what Jet used on some of those tracks, is not actually a baritone guitar. A true baritone goes from B to B, but a Fender Bass VI goes from E to E, like a normal guitar, but one octave lower. A baritone only goes three steps lower than a regular guitar.
Off-topic: I bought a Fender Jaguar Bass VI (previously known as Jaguar Baritone) last month. A really cool instrument.... I can't stop myself from playing Man With the Golden Arm as soon as I pick up the damn thing....

yeah I know, cd's got decent desinations and liner notes. it's Jet's vocals that got my attention though, and the Miners of Muzo's singer to whom I was reffering. man, some tracks he did are simply rip-off. shame I cant find anything on the net

I didn't know that. I just thought it was some kind of baritone on all the tracks featuring the low lead guitar sound until you mentioned the Jaguar.
