As i remember it Edgar Winter appeared on BBC TV "Old Grey Whistle test" with the Frankenstein tune around '73, they played London's White City one day festival with the Kinks, Canned Heat, Lindisfarne, Barclay James Harvest, JSD Band and topping the bill.. Sly and the Family Stone! Rick Derringer was Edgars guitarist at the time, was awesomely loud and slick beyond beyond. I wasn't long before Johnny Winter "Still alive and well" appeared in our record shops, later playing on the OGWT looking like the New York Dolls. Back then we all knew who the Winter Brothers were but "almost mainstream today".. at this location on the planet? Put it this way, in a recent New Musical Express interview with Morrissey (of the Smiths) the young reviewer openly admitted he didn't know the slightest thing about David Bowie! It's a good one though, i'd have never guessed who was playing. Top

Posted on Nov 07 2008 08:13 AM i saw "johnny winters and" at the dome in Va.beach in 1970 "humble pie" with peter frampton opening up for them, i must say humble pie was unbelievable they just blow every one away, i still think it was one of the best concerts i have ever seen, Rick Derringer pulled out all the stops that night he was on the top of his game just insane, it was more R&R than blues rick played all the classic chuck berry stuff i think he was playing a les paul rick kinda out shined johhny that night you could see why they only did that one album.I love his early stuff electric blue experiment and 2th winter great stuff — Facebook pages theSupertones or @ Timothy C Sullivan Top
