Permalink Who Is Rick Gale?

I picked up a 3 CD set a couple years ago at a flea market. A compilation by the title of Ride The Wild Surf, Great Surfin' Hits. A 2001 release on the Goldies label. Among the ususal suspects were 6 covers by a band called "Rick Gale & The Surf Riders".
Then, a few months ago I came across their CD, Let's Go Surfin' by Rick Gale & The Surf Riders, 2000 Audiophile Legends label release.
Both CDs are labeled as being made in Potugal.

Now, I humbly apologize, Rick, if that's indeed your real name, but it certainly seems like the name Rick Gale a made up stage name; an obvious play on Dick Dale.

Their CD is all covers of first wave hits, most of which sound really nice, some of which could have been produced better. There are some endings that could have been done better, and some cheesy programmed drums tracks, and cheap keyboard sounds, but all the guitar playing is tastefully executed with a nice lush tone.

The Lineup listed on the back cover is Rick Gale - Lead Guitar; Vince Eddy - Rhythm Guitar; John Bruce - Bass; Randy Nelson - Drums; Pete "Crazy" Murphy - Rhythm Guitar, Sax & Keyboards

My question is: Does anybody know who these guys are? Where they're from? Anyone seen them live? Anyone know what Rick Gale's real name is? A google search on the name comes up empty. I can't find any info on them beyond the credits on the CD.

This sounds like a Tubby Chess situation. I'll explain, I was shopping the dusty bins at a used record store and found a "twist" type record put out by a guy called Tubby Chess. Obviuosly a clever play on Chubby Checkers. After much research to no avail, I came to the conclusion that this person nerver existed. It was all a cheap marketing ploy. I get the same vibe about Rick Gale.

Tubby Chess, that's great! Did you know that Chubby Checker modeled his stage name after Fats Domino?
From Fats Domino to Chubby Checker to Tubby Chess. Who's next, Porky Parcheesi?

Sorry that my reply is kinda late, I've been moving. Yeah, what was it with names involving weight and board games? I got a kick out of the Porky Parcheesi name.
