That sounds pretty cool, but I gotta admit that I listen Brad Paisley occasionally. His material is usually the best on any of the New Country radio stations. He can play the guitar and his lyrics are hilarious.

Here is Paisley's shining moment.

Yeah, duet with William Shatner. Song set to video montage of Quantum Leap. Can you say bonus?

I think Brad Paisley is a great guitar player and I really like that song!
Do you think Linda could book him at the museum?

Rick

Wow, that is a great track. He is a great picker. I suppose he's doing all the vibrato work by bending the neck on his Tele. AND he has enough time to do the Flash animations as well. Talented guy.

THANK YOU-THANK YOU for posting that!!
This is the ammo I need to show my "prairie player" friends here who know not of surf guitar!! Rock

Wow, that kinda reminds me of "1960's Nokie" on steroids. I like it! Very Happy

Brad was on Austin City Limits a few weeks back...a stellar performance. He's definitely a smokin' player.

Just goes to show ya, that you don't necessarily need a Strat, Jazzmaster Jaguar or a Fender amp to play some really good surf. It's mostly in the hands, not the tools.

But a good Tele and a Dr.Z amp is pretty good gear...

Sure sounds like there's a pedal or lap steel used in there too......thoughts?

What exactly am I looking at here?

That's awesome!

Like him or not, the guy is a heck of a guitar player... I heard he was putting out a "guitar record". Maybe there will be more of this kind of stuff on it...

My wife drug me to his concert last year and I have to say I was impressed. He actually knew what to do wiht that Tele!!! The best of all of the country stars I've seen to date.

I'm not a country fan, but that was pretty impressive.

We may actually want to check this CD out!

Apart from a few duets the rest of it is instrumental...

Wow. I just listended to this again. It really is good...

Thanks for pointing out this song. It’s really an excellent one. So I bought the whole CD and have been listening to it for the past month or so. The first country CD I’ve ever bought. And you know what… it’s really good! Turf’s Up is my favorite song on there, by a long shot. No other surf songs. But this guy has serious chops. He’s got a really nice Tele twang going that I’ve been drawn toward lately. I’m pretty impressed with his range. In addition to this surf song there is a rocker in the mold of Eric Johnson/Joe Satriani. And a nice sounding jazz tribute to Les Paul. They’re good, too. Not just pathetic attempts at tributes that I might expect. The duet with BB Kind I just OK (despite how much I like BB King.) And he’s got a song called Cluster Pluck with about 6 country guitar legends. The playing and sounds of that song are simply amazing. So I gotta say that if you appreciate good guitar playing and have any affinity for a twangy Tele country sound, I definitely recommend this album. And for a mere $9 or so, you have little to loose.

I picked it up a few weeks ago, and was not blown away. I'd heard
it was an all instro album with a surf tune or two. Well it has 4 or 5
vocals on it, and one song roughly in the surf vein. He's a helluva
player, a total tone freak (Trainwreck, Dr Z and vintage Vox amps)
and of the modern country artists, to me he is by far the most
impressive. The CD is well played and covers a lot of diverse styles.
I realy admire him for sticking his neck out there, and risking
alienating his massive fan base with "weird music without vocals".
IMHO, any instrumental music exposure to the masses is a good
thing. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now I'm glad that I didn't
pay full price for it (I found a cheap promo copy in the used CD
bins). Anyway, kudos to Brad for putting out a CD for the love of
the music, at the risk of dubious commercial appeal.

Several years back, WoodyJ, Mitch and I headed up to Nashville for the Vintage guitar show there. As is the norm, the three of us kinda got separated and for while were off on our own. I was standing in a guy's booth checking out a Silvertone 1472 amp and some guy wearing a cowboy hat stepped up and we struck up a conversation. We both passed on the amp and for about 30 minutes, we just hung out, checking stuff out. Finally somebody who knew him, recognized him and started up a conversation. It was Brad and I wouldn't have known him from Adam's house cat............. He's a nice guy though and one hell of a player.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Cool story, Ed. Thanks for sharing it.

I guess it's always pleasant to hear that a talented, well known person is also nice.
