Permalink I built another 6G15 Blonde Reverb Unit (pics) (sound)

After building the first one, I decided to build a second one, the first one I built was sort of a trial to see how well it would work, It sounds excellent by the way! This one I am pretty proud of, as I used all new components, and again built it completely from scratch (not a kit) myself. I had only one problem with this build, I blew out the power transformer immediately when I first plugged it in, (very discouraging by the way!) After going over the circuit, I found that when I soldered the leads from the PT to the bridge rectifier, one of the leads bridged over to the other leg of the rectifier, hence the blown PT. Ill definately never do that again.
I call this one "The Big Dripper" I hope you enjoy the pics!

Very nice! Any chance we can hear a sound sample?

Very nice Thumbs Up

I notice you used a Sylvania 6K6. Good choice, those are my favorite of the NOS brands. I've used many of the GE and RCA types but I really dig the tighter sound of the Sylvania's.
Just out of curiosity, what type of output transformer did you use? Is that a stock Fender one?
Tank looks great with the blonde toltex and oxblood grill, by the way

That looks fantastic, I'm sure it sounds just as good. (Love the name too.)

Looks good, but are these things safe with a 2-prong cord?

Nice work.

I'll try and get a sample up, when I get a chance, my dad has some recording equipment I could use.

Very Nice! I like the tidy circuit board.

Yes the tube is a NOS Sylvania 6k6, and it does sound good. The output transformer is one that was kind of hard to hunt down, on the first one I built I used one I purchased from Triode Electronics, which is suposedly standard replacement for the 6g15, on this one, that particular transformer was unavailable from Triode, I would have had to wait a month for it. So what I decided to use was a Blackface Champ transformer, with both the 4 and 8 ohm tap. I have both the OT and the Choke mounted on the back of the chassis, and the PT inside the chassis as you can see. Both the choke, and the PT are direct replacements for the standalone reverb unit. The only difference with the PT is that it doesn't have a center tap for the heater wires, so I had to add 2 100ohm 1/2 watt resistors to create an artificial center tap.

Nice work. I'm anxious to hear it.

Anyone know of a real easy way to put up sound samples?

It looks so easy when you do it! ;) Fantastic!
