A cool pic showing Takeshi Terauchi with lots of Elk guitars and amps ca 1968. — |

Elk gear was made in the later 1960's and early 1970's, from what I've been able to gather. A lot of the amps and guitars were modeled after Fender equipment. I had the opportunity to buy a "Fender" Bandmaster that was actually an "Elk" with a Fender faceplate. I didn't buy it because A) It wasn't really a Fender and the seller was trying to pass it off as one B) It was too expensive, even if it had been a real Bandmaster C) The vibrato worked in reverse; it was a cool, kind of backwards vibrato sound, but it wasn't what I was looking for. Elk amps are really pretty cool. Elk guitars are even cooler. All of the Elk guitars and amplifiers that I've encountered have been really well-made, good sounding, and great looking gear with great surf appeal. Good luck with yours, and let us know how you like it. |

I've seen the Elk amps come up on eBay occasionally. It'd be neat to have one. Doing an internet search I found a site that has schematics and 'thumb print' photo's. Scroll down to Elk. http://www.drtube.com/guitamp.htm#Elk —Danny Ellison aka dubtrub |
