Dwell 9, Mix 3, Tone, 8
On the bandmaster
Volume 4, Treble 6, Bass 4
Jaguar Treble rolled down halfway thin switch on.
I have no idea. Nobody does, but you continue to ask anyways.

I've said this before, it'd be better for you to figure it out on your own, it's not that hard to EQ your own amp.

That sounds pretty helpful even if it is just an educated guess, which I think is what he's after anyway.

They used Ernie Ball slinky strings as well. I think Zak would agree with that.

The Astronauts could not have used Ernie Ball strings as they were not available in '63. And they did at times use a Jaguar for lead guitar when either Denny or Bob played lead which they sometimes did. Rich used a Jazzmaster for a long time but when they played in Atlanta in 1965, he was playing a Mustang.
After their first set in the parking lot at Columbia Mall in Decatur, two of my friends and I struck up a conversation with both Bob and Rich. Rich was using a standard set of strings (most likely Fender 150's) and had shifted the strings down one position and was using a banjo string for the high E. This was the first time I had ever seen anything like this so Rich was the one to introduce me to light gauge strings. Not long after this I bought my first set of "light gauge" strings which were Mosrite. I broke three of those strings the first night and never tried them again.
On stage at that time, Rich was using a Super Reverb (with one bad speaker unpluged) and both Bob (who was on bass) and Denny were playing out of BF Dual Showman Amps.
I don't remember them having any reverb tanks on stage and they did not play any surf or instrumentals, just blues and soul. I caught them that afternoon and later that same evening at Lenox Square shopping mall in the auditorium playing for a fashion show.

Not to derail the thread, but the thing about the banjo string is interesting. The only other time I've heard of that was James Burton who reportedly used banjo strings (Suzy-Q) with Dale Hawkins. Apparently the musicians had a need for light guages before they became available?

...and they played VERY quietly. Listen to the drum sound - that's quiet playing...
Good point! We are going to record soon, and this very thought was on my mind.
