Permalink A pressing question upon my mind - What is a delay box for?

The Tornados from England (Telstar) use an insane amount of echo, it's almost distracting. I'm assuming Joe Meek added that but it seems most pronounced on the guitar.

Jorgen Ingman used lots of tasty and strategically-placed tape echo in his recordings, like Apache (the hit version in the US) and its flip-side, Echo Boogie. The key thing for me is that his use of echo was a deliberate detail in the arrangement of the song. I'd like to track down more of his music.

WR, I for some reason was under the impression the Cosmoverb was not a 6G15 recreation. I seem to remember it having fuzz or something similar. I am probably totally wrong or am thinking it is a different unit. It looked kind of like a Orange head right? There is also a chance I never heard this unit.

it's an exact 6G15 circuit, true PTP with modern audio caps. from a technical pov it's very well and sturdy built, from an estheatic pov not so, meaning on the inside it looks like radio shack exploded. very difficult to service. it does look like an orange head, if you disregard the color! Very Happy no fuzz. on ur myspace page it's on the lead on tarantinula and ond the backing guitar in the other songs.

I'd be really excited if there were more (classy) pedal boards used by surf guitarists. They aren't for everybody but they are pretty damn fun.

my surf pedalboard is quite large. i don't know what your definition of classy is, but i tend to think i have quite a few options covered.

one analog echo, two digital echos, one digital reverb pedal, volume pedal, tremolo switch, overdrive, boost, distortion.

Classy is dependent on both the brand and type of effect. I'd say your board is classy judging by the effects on there.

IIRC Hendrix used a Revox tape delay in some of the Woodstock performances (possibly for Voodoo Chile?), with a fairly long delay that repeated only once. He would play a few bars and then harmonize with the delayed signal.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

... what is a delay box used for ...?

Idea Putting things off. Again and again.

A delay box is for Apache, and for pretending to be David Gilmour or The Edge. It's for rockabilly slapback. It's an emergency backup reverb. It gives added depth to Andy Summers style false harmonics.

I would give up all my overdrive pedals before I'd give up my delay.

Swing! Twang! Shake! Twist!

What's a good delay/echo for pretending to be Hank Marvin?
